Fantastic such a beautiful place . Gorgeous grounds and ample parking . Food we had afternoon tea was wonderful im gluten free and mine was served separately but I had almost the same as the others certainly plenty . The staff were very attentive and nothing absolutely nothing was to much trouble for them . Would definitely recommend it to anyone . Will be going back for a evening meal for certain.

We went for dinner here and were underwhelmed and disappointed. It was too dark to appreciate the building, but the interior seemed a mish mash of styles. Our starters of scallops and crayfish cocktail were good, except the white pudding to the scallops was swapped for black pudding without a by your leave, and when we complained we were told the delivery was wrong, no apology, nothing more...The halibut and salmon trio main courses were awfully over cooked and dry.The service was pleasant but not attentive. There is nothing to recommend here.

Dinner here was underwhelming and disappointing. The menu offerings are ordinary. My prawn & crayfish cocktail was the only decent dish of the evening. My companions scallops were served with black pudding instead of white pudding, without advice or explanation, and upon complaining, was told the delivery was wrong this morning... not even an apology! Our halibut and trio of salmon main courses were overcooked, resulting in the fish dry and tasteless. The service was pleasant, but not attentive. The lounge is a mishmash of decorative styles and the so-called Orangery was too cool and had nothing to commend it as a place to have dinner.Nothing to recommend here.

Stayed here for a 1 night stopover en route from Durham to Exeter. What a gem of a place. Beautiful room, immaculately clean, attentive staff from reception through restaurant to Michael in the bar. We had a lovely meal, nice wine (not expensive). Would highly recommend it. My niece who lives locally, recommended it after attending a few weddings here.Rooms: Very tasteful, immaculately clean, lovely bedFood & drinks: Excellent food and wine reasonably priced

Please be extra careful if you are planning on coming here with any dietary requirements or allergies! In my whole life of being vegetarian, and the 30 years my mom has been vegetarian we have never ever been served meat… expect from here! We came with some family for afternoon tea, 2 ate meat, and me and my mom were vegetarian and this was all noted on our booking. As we arrived were not asked about any allergies/ dietary requirements, and we were not given any menu telling us what was on our afternoon tea which i have never experienced anywhere else. When the food came out, the vegetarian afternoon tea and the meat one arrived on the same display, which we thought was odd as really they should’ve been kept separate. We brushed this off as me and my mom aren’t super strict on these things, however this should not happen with regards to religious or allergic restrictions. We asked the waiter to clarify, and to make sure we were given vegetarian dishes and he responded in an extremely rude manner, and my aunt even had to ask him to apologise to my mom! He told us which section was vegetarian and which had meat so we started to eat. As i was looking through my sandwiches (i am very cautious) and i was inspecting a sandwich on the section which was supposedly vegetarian and i was given a sandwich which contained chicken. I asked the waiter what is in it… and he responded chicken and tarragon. I quickly told my mom and she realised she had actually ate it! We completely put our trust in the restaurant, as you do anywhere especially after reiterating 3 times that we were vegetarian and we were served meat. This has NEVER ever happened to me anywhere before, and it is just completely unacceptable that a mistake like this could happen. Could you imagine if she was allergic to it, and ate it ?! After telling the waiter, they did not seem very apologetic at all, just told us that our prosecco is on the house… as if a free bottle of prosecco even minutely makes up for the fact my mom who has not eaten meat in over 30 years has eaten meat over an inexcusable mistake. It makes me so scared to think of the cross contamination happening, and when your paying almost £40 for an afternoon tea you at least expect dietary requirements to be taken seriously. We ended up speaking to the manager and only one of the afternoon teas were taken off the bill, again thinking back i cant belive we paid at all. The manager didn’t really seem to bothered, just basically said that he will take this into account, and vegetarian food should be served on different dishes. Please please please be SO mindful coming here with any dietary restrictions, and if you are severely allergic to something i’d say to avoid the place at all, as by my experience and also reading other reviews they do not take this sort of thing seriously. Extremely disappointed and upset and i will never return. It’s such a shame as it’s a beautiful place and we’ve been to numerous events here that have been lovely but what happened to us is just completely unacceptable.

Signage from the car park to the hotel - in the dark - is virtually invisible. Check in was perfunctory. Room was cold as radiators didn’t work. Bathroom was the same. (There was a fan heater in the room but who wants a fan running all night?) Sounds of vermin overnight either in the walls or in the roof. All of these were annoying, collectively irritating but a poor experience can be redeemed by a good breakfast but even that was mediocre - I was hustled into a back room because I wasn’t “with the wedding”. Buffet was sparse and the “hot” food was cold. I booked this for an overnight stop to break a lengthy journey. I chose a well rated hotel over the plentiful budget brands as I wanted something I thought would be better. I should have saved my money. This hotel seems to score well as being somewhere good to dine or to hold or attend a wedding. Looking at past reviews, it seems it falls down at actually being an hotel. There’s a Premier Inn less than 4 miles away. I should have stayed there. Cheaper and a far better breakfast

I would like to say a big thank you to all of the team who worked on 26th, 27th and 28th July 2023. We stayed in room 14 which had 2 large, very comfortable beds and was absolutely stunning. I could have stayed in the room for a week. Beautiful view and had everything you needed and more even down to the toiletries. The room was spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully. We attended a function in the Stables and was also blown away with the quality/design of the environment and excellent customer service. Compliment’s to the chef’s the food - hot buffet and breakfast was absolutely delicious. We would like to give a special mention to Michael who was very welcoming and went above and beyond to give all guests a good evening. Michael gave excellent customer service and was very knowledgeable of all products/services available at Nuthurst. We will definitely be returning. There were 2 lovely ladies who covered reception, they were also amazing, polite and friendly. Thank you, we wish you all a very happy future. Warm regards, Simone & Shola xx
