We passed a lovely evening here for a family catch-up, and we were all charmed by the warmth of the staff - it was not unlike being welcomed into a family home. The menu is inviting and has a real authenticity too it. I much enjoyed my arancini with beef ragu, my saltimbocca had a nice flavour although the meat was on the tough side, and the pistacchio ice dessert with Marsala wine was excellent. Among the other stand-out dishes was the bream, the seafood-filled pasta and the tiramisu. This is a charming little restaurant, and I certainly hope to return soon.

Enjoyed dinner here last night at the end of a very long day during which we had driven up to and back from Manchester in the day. There was only one other party in the restaurant when we arrived, although a second group of people came in to eat. Despite this, it was still a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and Matteo had reserved our favourite table for us! All our chosen dishes were absolutely tasty, warming and delicious! We both started with the mussels giardinera, followed by the veal for me and the lamb neck special for my husband. Oh, and I had a lovely crisp and freshly made green salad with my mussels. With a lovely dressing! All four dishes were so tasty and beautifully cooked! We washed the meal down with a lovely bottle of red wine, which went perfectly with our main courses. We had asked for no potatoes with either of the main courses, and these were replaced with steamed broccoli and sauted mushrooms respectively - without any fuss at all! We hadn't really intended having a dessert, but had a little red wine left, so we decided to go for the cheese platter for 2, a lovely selection of italian cheeses. Really lovely! A Parmesan isn't really the sort of cheese that we would put on our own cheese platter, but it was perfect in this one! Service was excellent - a very friendly and helpful server, and Matteo is the perfect host with the most! The bill was very reasonable for what we had just enjoyed - and it was the perfect way to end a bit of a difficult and tiring day! Couldn't fault a thing!

I have been lucky enough to be a regular at this independent Italian for over 10 years. Owner Matteo is a charming sicilian and wonderful host. Mark the head chef has been there for 20 years (which is practically unheard of these days.) Staff are always very professional and courteous. I have loved the changing seasonal menus. The ambience reminds me of being in Italy. Its unusual to have an "owner managed" place like this so close to the centre of the second city. Corporates and chains seem to prevail these days. Huge goodwill! La dolce vita!

My partner had always wanted to try Bagna Cauda so we sought out the place solely for this purpose. We were blown away by the food here. To start, we had beautiful pasta ribbons with ragu made from slow cooked shin of beef. Then perfectly grilled sea bream with a decadent garlic and anchovy butter sauce and little crispy potatoes. Affogato and zuppa inglese for dessert. Everything we tasted was cooked to perfection. The service is attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Although the place is cosy and the tables tightly packed, this only adds to the warm atmosphere. Absolutely cannot recommend this place more highly. We will certainly be back.
