Where to start with the good thing, the entrance area is warm and the restaurant looks lovely. That's where it ends .... We arrive and order glasses of wine, 2PG but 1 with lemonade and 1 SB. The barman upsells us a bottle of wine fine. He then informs us of the 7 dishes that are off the menu where again no problem. A different server delivers the wine, I ask for my lemonade to be told "I will go and find it". She comes back to say they have no lemonade as the guns broke. So when originally server comes back I tell him I'm not happy that he upsold me a bottle of wine and there is no lemonade and asked why someone couldn't go to the shop and buy some, to which he replied " it's not my problem" and walked off. (One of the people we were with left) So just 2 of us at the table now. Server 3 then comes to take our food order and my friends noodles were now not available again not a problem just annoying as menu isn't that big to start so to have 8 main courses not available on a Sat night not great. I chose the ribeye wd no pepper corn sauce. We waited 50 minutes for a burger and fries that were under cooked and a med rare steak. So again called server over he agreed in his words "oh thats no where near wd" he took it back to the kitchen then came back to ask if I wanted a fresh meal. I said no just put it back on the grill. 20mins later and it comes back 1 half was WD and 1 half burnt so bad the knife wouldn't even cut it. The chips although fresh were under cooked. Both times meal came out with peppercorn sauce when i requested none. At this time it was getting on for 9.30 and my friend had finished her meal and I was hungry so I ate what I could. All the while we are aware of the staff standing there at the bar next to our table and talking about us. To the point the young lad on table behind us had his had up a solid 10 minutes trying to get their attention then gave up. The staff clearly didnt want to be at work and im not surprised with the amount of things not available. No ones job was going to be easy, as it is embarrassing. My friend then went to the toilet and there was no toilet roll in any cubicles, wet puddles on floor and sink areas. Tissue and empty toilet roll inserts scattered in the dimly lit toilets. The entrance area is warm but the main resturant area is cold but we grinned and bared it. Time for us to go.... We then asked for the bill which automatically has the service charge added. So my friend asked for it to be removed the server asked why and we explained all the above to be met with. "It's not their fault there's no lemonade" " your wait was long because we are short staffed" "that staff don't use the toilets, so my friend should of told someone". "that we had been rude to staff". Not one apology or acknowledgement of incompetency. Obviously I asked to see the Manager, and his attitude was disgusting let me tell you. First of all stating my staff told me you were rude so I'm only taking service charge off that is it. We then explained all the above again to him. Again no apology for poor stock control and ordering, poor staff rota, poor management skills, poor customer service. I asked him why if the lemonade gun was broken, are your staff are selling £30+ bottles of wine, why can you not buy some lemonade from the shop? His reply was I can't I have to keep my costs down. (I know prices have gone up but it's lemonade come on now!!) The 1st server then comes over from discussing us with the other worker, when he clearly had finished work wearing his outdoor coat to come and explain something to the manager, which to be fair the manager did tell him to go away. Just wow. Staff off duty waiting for us. Reluctantly he said then that he would take off the steak aswell as the service charge. I asked him for his name and he said "im not telling you". He said he would sort the bill and we were not welcome back. I went to the toilet but just in case I took a napkin wi

At the canal home, I had a blast. welcomed and attended to with great attention by a few amiable employees. After ordering, the food was delivered quite quickly. Beautiful architecture makes up the restaurant; live music was playing on the bottom level and was amplified so you could hear it clearly in the background while you dined. I'll be going again; the outdoor space looked fantastic for the summer.

Had a booking for 5 people on 28th December.Lovely venue, main meals were nice. But the 2x of the cookie dough desserts arrived overdone. The cookie dough was fully baked and crumbly, not ‘actual’ cookie dough. Whereas the 3rd cookie dough which my friend ordered was extremely gewy (not consistent). We reported this to a blonde waitress (didn’t catch her name) and asked for the 2 to be redone… she responded with, “The kitchen staff may scream at me, but i’ll try.” Zero apology. She didn’t even return to our table. We waited and waited for the cookie dough desserts which then caused a few of us to run over on our carpark booking time, so we requested the bill hoping that it would speed things up having the bill in advance. A waiter advised that he removed the desserts and service charge from the bill, However, we received the bill and the desserts were still on there - again we had to bring this to their attention and they were removed. Not sure if they were hoping we wouldn’t notice or if this was a genuine error. The desserts arrived after around 30minutes of wait, and to our disappointment there was no change, the cookie dough was still overdone and crumbly like a cookie and not gewy at all - the desserts were not eaten. I think the issue is that, they take too long on these desserts so they overcook them, cookie dough should take 5minutes not half an hour.My friend also had a bad tummy when she got home, the rest of us were fine.Lovely venue, but the service definitely let it down.

Enjoyed myself immensely at the canal house. welcomed by a few amiable employees who paid close attention to detail the entire time. The food was delivered quite quickly after the order was placed. The restaurant architecture is gorgeous in and of itself. There was live music playing on the lower floor, which was also connected to speakers so you could hear it well in the background while you were eating. I will most definitely be going back because the outdoor area looked fantastic for the summer.

Previously a fan of Canal House, my recent visit was disheartening. The food arrived cold, cocktails were undrinkable, and the overall service, excluding a commendable young lad, fell short. Despite the letdown, the surrounding area offers numerous other fantastic eateries and bars.

I and two others visited the Canalhouse in Birmingham for New Year’s Eve, and unfortunately, it was a highly disappointing experience. The food was served cold, and despite our request to move to a different seat due to being pushed into an isolated corner, the management promised to get back to us in 10 minutes but never did. The food arrived at different times, and to make matters worse, the passion fruit martini tasted off. Frustratingly, we had to leave and wander the streets of Birmingham to find an alternative as the Canalhouse showed no willingness to be helpful. Overall, a regrettable way to spend New Year’s Eve. All in all we won’t be coming back to the canalhouse any time soon and are very disappointed in our experience.

Service was terrible, waited around 35 minutes to be seen to, the food comes out cold ? My other family members arrived within 5 minutes of ordering whilst mine and my brothers came around 15-20 minutes later at a lukewarm temperature. May I add we were placed in a back room where we was pretty much the only people in that room. My other sibling asked to be moved to somewhere we could see the live music (which we was expecting to go and watch) Terrible.

Me and partner were really excited about dining here, we had seen a lot of good reviews but after finally visiting, I wouldn’t return. The hostess who sat us, didn’t say a word to us, having never been here before we went straight to the bar to get a menu and order our drinks to be told it’s table service. We ordered and the chicken skewer was extremely dry, the mushrooms cold, one positive was the chips, they were lovely. My partner had the sea bass and the food was cold again and the sauce advertised with it, they are very stingy with! We then paid the bill which was well over priced for what we got, and headed downstairs to the bar. The singer was incredible, much better service and atmosphere there! I would skip the restaurant and go straight down to the bar and eat elsewhere.

Hugh was the best waiter I have seen in a while, handling a very busy NYE restaurant with grace, all whilst remaining friendly and approachable. Definitely recommend, (especially if Hugh’s working)
