I booked this for a table of 8. I was so relieved it was good! Lovely, substantial Sunday lunch and gorgeous desserts at a really great price. Very friendly staff. Nice and homely.

A lovely pub with lots of knick-knacks to look at. Fantastic hosts, who could not have done any more to make us feel welcome. There were 8 (7adults and a 2 year old) of us that decided to pop in as we were looking for somewhere to go for a meal after pumpkin picking. Excellent food that was freshly made to order. Great sized portions. Thanks for helping us enjoy a lovely afternoon.

My wife and I met old friends here for lunch yesterday. We can't praise the welcome we received and the food too highly. The lamb shank and chicken and leek pie were excellent as were the desserts. Gemma and her team ensured that this was a very special and memorable occasion. We will definitely be coming back.

The lunch was excellent, Ham Eggs & Chips/salad and Mac Cheese & Chips/salad. All washed down with a great pint of Harveys bitter.

Met two friends with the aim of having an unhurried lunch, and ended up spending a very enjoyable three and a half hours lingering over our food....! Landlord Michael and wife Gemma greeted us - both extremely friendly, helpful and keen to please. The Red Lion is a traditioinal English pub rather than a modern gastropub, in a slightly dark environment with dark furnishings, but very clean. Toilets were bright and spotlessly clean. Background music subtle (thankfully) and not at all intrusive. Food was superb. The men had chicken and leek pie and lambshank, served with very nice chips (other potato choices available); the ladies had prawn cocktail jacket potato and brie and bacon baguette, and all of us enjoyed the food immensely. All prepared to order and served piping hot. My wife is very discerning about jacket potatoes, and this was served with an unusual and very tasty salad which she especially enjoyed. She confirmed she would definitely choose that again. Some of our number were slightly more ambivalent about desserts: they were OK but didn't quite excel like the mains. All the food was very btastefully presented. Prices are reasonable, so good value for money overall. Being an early October Wednesday, sadly, there were only few other patrons. Michael and Gemma made us most welcome, so the friendly atmosphere combined with excellent food and service make it a worthy place to eat. They cleartly work hard to please their customers and deserve to thrive and grow. We would certainly go there again, and commend it to others.
