Great food and ambience. Very helpful staff.

Lovely food but with a roaring open fire we were unlucky to be very cold at the other end of the room.

Great Sunday lunch with excellent service and food and a really good atmosphere. Reasonably priced and good value. Certainly worth a future visit.

Went there in two couples, had a variety of starters and mains. Food was delicious. Worth special praise were the pie of the day (chicken and chorizo), which was amazing. My wife had an amazing red pepper, haloumi, and mushroom burger where every single ingredient was fresh and tasty. We could only manage one dessert (between us), sticky toffee pudding with brandy custard. All the food was fresh and tasty, and there was an excellent selection of quality local beers on tap. We're definitely going back next time we're in Brighton

Good food and atmosphere, but a 20% service charge on the final bill is too much and would stop me going again.

Lovely country setting, nice welcoming atmosphere, we had the roast which was really delicious, this is one of our favourite venues. Lovely ambience today (Sunday) despite a large party causing problems for staff by turning up very late for their booking etc. we really felt for them but they coped with it really well and look forward to our next visit.. it’s 5 stars from us and very well earnt on this occasion.. many thanks once again.

An extremely unpleasant experience. Very rude and stressed out staff. I had made a group booked and was constantly being told we need to leave by 2pm (which we were always going to do!). I had confirmed for 19 adults and some children and we had 18 people arrive. We were charged an extra £70 for missing people despite having paid over £350 for our food and drinks. Food was quite nice and the pub is in a lovely location it is a shame it was ruined by being treated very aggressively.

What a wonderful find. A pub with great food and great walks right from the car park. The staff are very welcoming, attentive and friendly. We ordered the moules frites. Whoever is supplying the mussels to this pub I want their number. Every single shell was filled with the plumpest pillowy mussel! Not one miss! The cream sauce was delicious, especially with the salty fries. My wife had the grilled Plaice with capers and brown prawns. It was perfectly cooked, generous and went really well with the buttery earthy potatoes and broccoli. In summary, we had the best pub food we have experienced for some time. Bettered many of London’s more recognised and expensive gastro pubs and you get to ‘vape ‘some fresh clean air as you ascend the Downs to earn a remarkable 360 view from the Sea to the North Downs.

We had a lovely Sunday roast here this weekend! Delicious food and cosy atmosphere. The only thing that let it down for us was the service was very slow. Not in terms of waiting for our food, but actually being able to order and pay! We had to prompt every time we wanted someone’s attention otherwise we were waiting for a long time which is difficult with children in tow. Also, the sticky toffee pudding was not what we were expecting. The roast itself and the atmosphere all excellent though.

Visited for a weekday lunch. Booked in advance but did not seem too busy when we arrived. Drinks served quickly but our starters took 45 mins to arrive. The fried squid tentacles and goats cheese tart were both very enjoyable. Our main dishes arrived about 20Mins later. The fish and chips turned out to be three quite thin fish slices in coated in a thick batter. The chunky chips were very oily. My partners cheese burger was equally underwhelming.

The pub is well located as a place to enjoy walks on the South Downs and enjoy an excellent lunch. Great food and drink in comfortable surroundings.

The garden is lovely and the bar staff very friendly and helpful. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they were very short staffed on our visit. We waited for nearly two hours for our food and it was less than ordinary when it arrived. The place was not even full. So a rather disappointing visit. But a beautiful village and part of the country to visit, if you're not hungry :)

Sunday lunch was somewhat chaotic this visit, not helped by the good weather bringing lots of "walk-ins" May be a new landlord here. Very grumpy and barking at the poor over worked staff, maybe he had a heavy Saturday night session. To be fair, food was ok....when it arrived. We'll check future reviews before returning. TR

An amazing country pub just outside of Brighton. The views are splendid and I had the best king prawns I’ve eaten since a visit to the La Rochelle forty years years ago. Large serving. Perfectly cooked and presented prawns. More like langoustine. Almost sweet they were so fresh and delicious. Great bitter and ales and great service. Can’t wait to visit again.
