We recently stayed at The Lion for one night, in the suite. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful upon arrival. The suite was well equipped, clean and pleasant. The shower was great - powerful and enjoyable. I really like the way the continental breakfast was delivered in a picnic basket on your door step at night. The breakfast contained a yogurt, breakfast bar, apple, orange, croissant, 2 biscuits, porridge and a bottle of orange juice each. The bed was really comfortable and we got to sleep very quickly, until we were woken up by the boiler in the room at 2am! It fired up evey hour and in between at times, when what we can only think to be other people in the building using the hot water. This was a huge let down, hence only 3 stars. We had very little sleep and had a 2 hour drive home the next day. We would not stay in the suite and spend the extra money again, but we may try one of the other rooms if we were to ever come over to Ripponden again.Avoid the Suite if you don't want a sleepless night!

Stopped here for tea last night. Great selection of dishes to choose from. Very good with dietary requirements as cooked a dish to cater for one family members allergies. Staff were friendly and helpful. Dog friendly area for dining which is always a bonus for us and the doggos ? I had the Gnocci with steak & peppercorn sauce. It was heavy on the peppercorns but I loved it Highly recommend! ?

We had an excellent stay in The Lion last night. The room (Dickens Suite) was clean & comfortable, there was a very nice kitchenette which we did not need to use. We had booked to have dinner in the pub & we were very impressed. My husband had the scallops & I had the creamy garlic mushrooms to start & then I had the gnocchi with fillet steak & my husband had the steak. It was all delicious, we were too full for dessert, but sat in the bar & had a Baileys after dinner. Prices were very reasonable considering the quality & the wine was also a good price. We also had a very good full English breakfast in the morning. The staff were all really friendly & the service was great. There is a free car park behind the pub. I would definitely recommend this pub for a meal and/or overnight stay.

Have been coming here for years off and on, sadly its not close enough to home to be able to call it a local. The food was very good full of flavour and more importantly they had gluten free options available, which was good news for one of my friends he was very surprised with the amount of selection. The staff were friendly and helpful making sure everything was ok with the food etc etc. will certainly return.

Stayed here Friday to Sunday for a family wedding at Barkisland. The staff are friendly and welcoming and helpful too. Room was lovely, clean and bed was comfy. Had a lovely evening meal, plenty to choose from on the menu and breakfast also plenty of choice. Free car park behind the Lion. Would stay there again and explore more of the area.Food & drinks: Reasonably priced

Welcomed upon arrival with a smile and a very friendly hello. ? room is great, not a single compliant. Beds very comfy with an amazing shower, albeit bathroom is small I never review so quickly after 1 night and I'm staying all week. Very very impressed. Food is gorgeous, attentive staff. Shout out to the girl on her first day. Took my order, provided a warm friendly glow upon asking was everything alright! Smashed it.Rooms: Fantastic quality, clean and well situatedSafety: Shown fire exits and procedures upon arrival.Walkability: Great walk around, can be quite hilly at times but what else would you expect here.Food & drinks: Quality pizzas, burgers and drinks. Corona on Tap

The food tonight was outstanding, every person at our table left very happy. I love the idea that kids can order kids versions of the adult pizzas, and worked perfectly for us.(Can't comment on the rooms, but food and service are anything to go by, I'm sure they'll be amazing)

This was my 2nd visit to the lion. This time I was very disappointed. Service was slow throughout and had to ask for a replenishment of drinks 3 TIMES! before I got one. I had ordered the halloumi skewer and it was a disappointment. 4 chunky pieces of halloumi with what looked like 3chunky pieces of cucumber 2 pieces of red pepper and 2 pieces red onion...sat on a warm pitta and a small pot of tzatsiki and salad consisting of lettuce tomatoes and more cucumber...I did expect more Mediterranean veg like courgette mushrooms different coloured peppers. There was no chips no hummus...all in all for nearly £15 not a patch on other restaurants skewers. Then as I was still hungry we ordered pudding the choc fondue board to share between 2 which was even worse!! 2 strawberries cut into 4. Grapes..oreo biscuits broken up...small pieces of apple and amaretto biscuits...it was like they didn't have all the ingredients and just threw it all together with what they had.Last time I visited had such a nicer experience service was better and food was too. Please note the food was nice tasted lovely just think it could have been even better for the price.
