to be honest I only give a genuine review of the food and service given so here goes this cafe holds a great location and caroark next door so no brainer to pop in before our appointment. ordered x2 full breakfast and within minutes of ordering the toast appeared, nothing of quality just basic brown and white slice gutless bread of which I made a comment to the waitress but sadly she chuckled my criticism away. the meals arrived and for £10 instantly looked depressing. 1 snotty egg, half a tomato, bubble end of a black pudding and thin and small, x2 really poor commercial tasteless sausages not overly hot and pale, chewy bacon 3 slices not the best and the beans were great and hot.. overall not worth the brass, not hot and to say it only travelled what 10feet!! obviously not served straight away. the beans must have been the last to hit the plate as boiling... so 1 star overall for a poor breakfast for 2 people. sorry water gate I did expect a better meal.. your meals given to us were poor, expensive for quality and poor on taste and produce served. bread, sausages were dire bacon not much better thank god the beans were ok hot and enjoyable. that's £20 I would have preferred to have spent elsewhere... your feedback would be of interest but not essential as we will not be returning.

After years of visiting this cafe when in Hebden Bridge, we were so disappointed. We went inside as the 'specials board' was offering broccoli and stilton soup, however, it was already sold out at 1:15pm. Ordered Welsh Rarebit instead but when it arrived it was two slices of bog standard white sliced bread and only one slice had cheese on, the other slice was drowning in butter (YUK) with no cheese. £5.20 for a single slice of bread with cheese! Service was bordering on 'just ok', providing the bare minimum with no interaction or care whatsoever. It's very sad and disappointing and we won't go again.

I travel to Hebden from Malton every week to look after the grandchildren. Every time I am able to, I use the Watergate Tea Rooms. The food is very good, the staff are consistent in service, all the food is freshly made to order so be prepared for a short wait, which is as it should be, no ‘fast food’ here just delicious. If you have the opportunity to order a hot meal of their ‘Specials’ board, depending on the time of your visit as these sell out quickly. I’ve just had Homemade Fish Pie with Tenderstem broccoli absolutely delicious.

On a wet midweek walk I stopped at Hebden Bridge, for a lunch break. I found the Watergate Tea Rooms and was met by a very welcoming staff member who showed me to a table, without having to wait. A good pot of tea and scrambled eggs, smoked salmon on toast was thoroughly enjoyed, setting me up for my next leg of my walk.

We have visited these tea rooms frequently and never been disappointed. Today however was dreadful. Ordered a coffee and pot of tea along with two scrambled eggs on toast. Drinks arrived, just "dumped" on the table. No cup for the tea waited 5 mins for cup to be brought in the end helped myself from sideboard. Scrambled eggs arrived on stone cold plates, eggs dry as a bone and extremely rubbery. Found the two young serving girls very surly, not welcoming at all. Came to pay and was asked if I knew what I had ordered. Just paid the bill and left. Very, very poor service today , food very disappointing and very different to previous visits .

Nice place. I had scampi, chips, and peas. Impressed with the large portions.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast which was freshly cooked and delicious - the service was excellent - good value for money - thank you!

Nice food in a traditional English style by the water. The service is great with tea or coffee as part of the breakfast.

We looked at various eating places in the town for a small lunchtime snack and chose Watergate for its varied and reasonably priced menu. We were pleased by the simple, but comfortable interior, and good food served. Recommended

I came to hebden bridge to muse around the shops and take a walk along the canal . I always like to start with a good breakfast having walked passed all the cafes that were full of dogs I was pleasantly relieved that the Watergate cafe wasn’t. The place is bright an airy and the staff are friendly. The full English breakfast was good especially the bacon and the coffee was perfect. I go out for breakfast a lot and this cafe will defo be on my return list. The rest of the menu looked good also . Keep doing what you are doing ladies it’s working ?

Right next to the car park and the river. The staff were wonderful and made a fantastic breakfast! The sausage were amazing as was the bacon and the rest! £35 for 4 people is pretty good value!! Lovely Yorkshire tea! Can’t wait to go back! Great job ?
