Rang last minute during the busy festive period and was lucky enough to get a dog friendly table booked - we have been here often for drinks but never managed to get in for food (our complete fault for not booking ahead) but this place was the absolute BEST! The staff were so friendly and kind to both us and our little dog - the wine was brilliant for a house and our meals were both sublime. Who takes the time to crisp up and season chicken skin?? This chef evidently! I didn't have to reach for the salt and pepper for any part of the meal - everything was well seasoned. The waiters were friendly and conversed well, but knew when to leave you to eat your meal - superb service that made us feel right at home! We spoke to the manager before we left and made sure to leave a thank you card and what we HOPE was a generous tip. but the best compliment we can give is to say to everyone - go here, eat the food, drink the wine, meet the people, have the time of your life - you will enjoy it! We will be back very soon - special mention to Lenny and his lovely family and also the young chap going for the marines - thank you in advance for your service to our country young man! Absolute pleasure to meet you! ;-)

A really lovely meal (sirloin, chips, fried egg) in a great pub with great service. I’m never disappointed by the Sheps Rest and it’s definitely worth the trip up the hill. Plenty of parking and amazing views of the valley.

We visited today for a meal with the family and everything was top quality from start to finish. The fires were roaring, there was a nice atmosphere in there and it was packed with people equally enjoying themselves. I had the smoked salmon salad starter, followed by beef short rib main, which was sooo good! If you're local to this place, what a gem you have on your doorstep!

We went in a group of 34, for a birthday celebration. The pub was also busy with other customers but the service and the food we recieved was fantastic. Nothing was too much for the staff they were happy to help and although very busy they stayed upbeat. The decor is lovely and christmas decorations were a nice touch. All bills were paid by each family and they managed this with no issues. The food was delicious and very more-ish although you couldnt have fit anymore in as portions are enough. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go again.

Stopped in at lunch for some food and asked if we could park in our motorhome for the night if we made a dinner reservation and the very welcoming and friendly staff said yes! The food was amazing! and we had a place to stay for the night!

Had diner with the family. Was pleasantly surprised to know they were serving Timothy Taylor Landlord which is a favourite of mine. It was probably the best pint of it I have had, ever. They are obviously looking after their ales. We had the Tandoori Chicken which was really nice, kids fish goujons which were also lovely and not greasy at all. Finally there was the beef smash burger…for the wife…tasty tasty tasty and you had 2 patties. Well worth it and will be back

What a fantastic restaurant. ACTUAL home made food the real deal. Lovely refurbished rooms and lovely staff. A little wait for the food but to be completely expected since its home cooked. Views are stunning!!! Cosy and warm with log burners. We felt so welcome and the chef even gave us a carrot for the snowman we built in the garden. Can't wait to visit again!!!

I visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon with my Cousin who was visiting from the USA, he wanted to try a Sunday dinner and a good pint. We both ordered a roast beef Sunday dinner and finished with sticky toffee pudding and custard. To drink we had a couple of pints of Timothy Taylors Landlord Bitter. The food was spot on, tasty roast beef and potatoes, also a bowl of fresh vegetables which tasted lovely. The STP for desert was a joy to behold, deserts don't get much better. The beer was perfectly kept and well poured with a perfect head. The young fella who served us both was a credit to the restaurant, somebody who looked happy in his work and smiled, a guy who could also hold a conversation and made us feel like valued customers. My cousin will return to New York with nothing but good memories of his visit to the Sheperds Rest, thank you to your team for looking after us so well.

Had a brilliant meal here last night with my girlfriend. We got the burger share board and it was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The flavour in the beef patties was amazing, the homemade burger sauce was the best I’ve ever had, the dirty fries, the chicken pieces and onion rings were also very tasty! Cannot wait to come back.

Visited on Saturday for the second time. We came as a family of 5 for late lunch. Everyone’s food was superb. I’ve now had the hot brisket sandwich and the steak and onion pie and would highly recommend them both. Both times I’ve visited there has been quite a wait for the food but I don’t mind this as it shows that things are cooked from scratch. Can’t wait to go back!

You can tell you are getting close as you feel to be in the middle of nowhere. The pub was very welcoming. We had reserved a table for 4, plus the dog. It was a little small, but we managed the fire was lit and nice a cosy. We got our drinks straight away. We ordered our food, which was pie and chips ?. My brother had fish and chips me mum got the lasagne. The only issue for use it was over an hour to get our meals ? The pud only had a few coupled in as it was a Thursday midday. So, I'm not sure what the delay was?Dietary restrictions: They do ask about any alegies and dietary conditions before you order.Parking: There is plenty of space at the side of the pub to park. When we arrived there were only 2 other cars ? there.

My wife and I had the vegetarian Sunday roast and it was absolutely banging as per usual. Writing this review after my 4th visit. It's a local for us, but if you're not from the area and looking for a Sunday dinner, this is our favourite in Walsden, Todmorden, and Hebden Bridge.
