There is a delay in writing this review as I was waiting for a satisfactory reply from management however as the reply was not satisfactory I have decided to write about our dreadful experience. We booked for Christmas Day Lunch following a difficult year for us as a family and thought this would be a treat...how wrong could I be! We arrived on Christmas Day expecting a festive atmosphere but that was seriously lacking. We asked for a Gin and Tonic but was told they had no tonic, my son asked for a pint of Guiness to be told 'we don't sell Guiness' my husband asked what draught ales they had to offer (as there was no badges o the pumps) to be told they had no ales on draught, they had lager or cider only! Once seated and the starter arrived Terrine with Crostini, I asked the waitress for more crostini to go with my pate as it was very small, she immediately corrected me 'that is Terrine not Pate' then said its not something they normally would do but she would check with the kitchen first (I don't normally pay £99 a head for dinner!) she came back with 1 yes 1 crostini we had to ask a man waiter for more and he came back with 3 or 4. The main came out which we all ordered Turkey Christmas dinner which was all served up on the plate including gravy, no separate bowls of vegetables or a gravy boat which is the least we'd expect. The Turkey was processed and I'm sure the vegetables were frozen. The sweet was just as uninspiring Apple tartin. We had table crackers, no gift in there just cheap crackers with a joke and a tongue twister. In addition to the above there was aircon on in the restaurant which made it cold and we assume this was for the benefit of the staff. In the reply from the general manager he stated there was in fact ale on draught - untrue as the barman told us there wasn't and as my husband normally only drinks ale he wouldn't have chosen lager and as previously mentioned there was no badges on the pumps. He said that he received only positive feedback that day (I have since found out someone else was as dissatisfied with the whole experience) I was asked why I didn't make it known on the day but what could they have done? Cooked a fresh Turkey? re-served the vegetables and gravy separate? Customers shouldn't be put in a position where there is a need to complain ever but especially on a festive day where we wanted to celebrate. Part of the reply from the Group Operations Director states as follows: " I am genuinely not trying to be argumentative but can categorically assure you that both the Turkey & Vegetables were fresh and not frozen or processed. I have access to all the hotels procurement records and at no hotels of ours we do this. With regard to the bar products again I can assure you that Wainwrights Golden Ale was and is available on draught so am equally disappointed that your husband was not offered this" A complete let down for the hotel group Best Western.

Stopped here for afternoon tea as part of a coach holiday. Initially looked good tables nicely set out, slightly surprised by the hefty looking coffee mugs on the tables though. Waiter came round with glasses of mulled wine, left our table, plus one other. Asked if we could have mulled wine too, and he said yes, it. didn’t appear. Asked a waitress and it still didn’t appear. Then a waiter came round and said the food was ready. Would we like to go and help ourselves? No, not really. We were all expecting the usual type of afternoon tea with the sandwiches and cake brought to the table on s little stand. However, there was no choice so we all went to a rather small area and did our best to serve ourselves. Plates ran out. The sandwiches provided were not those advertised. We were expecting Turkey and cranberry , egg mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, and chutney , honey roast ham with tomato and mustard . We actually got Cucumber sandwiches, cheese and pickle plus ham on its own. Mince pies were quite nice. Scones were okay although cream and jam also ran out although I believe it was replaced. Spiced chocolate brownie, which was promised which was offered did not materialise. Instead there was some squares of what I think is known as tray bake. Some little triangles of cheesecake, some had a bit of strawberry on them and some didn’t. The mulled wine eventually materialised and the waiter said it was on the counter and we could’ve helped ourselves because it was self service. I pointed out, now with clenched teeth, that he served every other table. The answer to that was that they wanted to get everything started and prevent to a big queue. I replied that three other members of staff could’ve told me this when I enquired. I didn’t have the tea but my husband and two other people on our table although that’s rather an exaggeration. As a coffee drinker, even I recognised that this was just coloured water and any connection with a teabag had been several teapots ago. Altogether, it was most disappointing. On the plus side, though, the toilets are clean. I don’t know whether we received inferior service and food because we were part of a coach party. Do I recommend? No I don’t. Will I go back? No, I won’t.

Popped in for a drink and light bite whilst waiting to catch a bus home. It’s hard to not mess a toasted panini and chips up right?? And they were not busy. Apparently not! Tasteless and not even hot. Tiny bowl of warm chips for £2! Seriously? Should have looked at the reviews first. Shan’t be coming back. Average at best and I’m being kind. I’m expecting a ‘you should have brought it to our attention’ response but my early response will be ‘should we have had to?’ Right first time approach perhaps? Oh dear!

We took our elderly mum for lunch during a quick visit to see her from Birmingham. Ordered food and drinks, the tea took forever to arrive. Mum had ordered a light bite but this was served as a starter so we ended up watching her eat while waiting for ours to arrive some 30 mins later. Did complain but the staff weren’t overly bothered. Had to ask for cutlery. Food was mediocre. It was fairly quiet so it wasn’t because they were busy. Think we’ll avoid in the future. Make sure you put your car reg in their machine.

The room was unbearably so even though a fan was provided I had very little sleep. Cold tap in the washbasin was dripping all night. A lot of the fixtures in the bathroom were hanging off or loose. Room was a bit tired looking.

We stayed in a room in the newer outside pavilion. The room was of a good size but we were on the top floor and the room is excruciatingly stuffy and hot, no air conditioning, the window would serve a dolls house better! The hotel are still using single use plastic containers and soap bars in the bathrooms, also the basin was blocked. Our room was the first as you come off the landing, we were subjected to the lobby door banging into the early hours and first thing in the morning. Breakfast was very good, I could not fault it. Ample free car parking but you must remember to enter your registration at reception. Dog friendly hotel.

Booked this hotel to visit Lacock Abbey, it wasn't the cheapest hotel, but it was fairly easy to find, and nice and central for the town. Hotel - It is a stunning hotel visually, spread over several sections, a good sized bar and restaurant and a lovely outside area to sit and have a drink in the nice weather, Lots of parking. Rooms - The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, we had a twin room as I was there with my daughter, comfortable beds and good sized bathroom, lovely big TV. Staff - Staff were friendly, but seemed a little rushed, general chat wasn't on the cards, but I like chatty staff. That changed in the morning the young man on breakfast was amazing, helpful and chatty. Food - We only had breakfast, but it was beautiful, well cooked a nice choice and hot. Why only 4 stars? Well, it is a bug bear of mine that certain chains are restricting our choice, both Best Western and Mecure are both at it. The bar does not serve normal Coke, only sugar free, and at breakfast only skimmed milk was available, I understand that they are maybe trying to be healthy, but surely it is out choice, and I don't mind paying a bit more for a glass of proper coke. I think sometimes, these hotels forget, without us they are just buildings.

Great hotel and location right in the center of Chippenham with train station close by. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. Room was clean and quiet. Staff were friendly. Pool and gym facilities were also good.

We often pop to The Angel Hotel for a drink of an evening. The garden (especially in the summer) is a stunning place to sit - very tranquil and quiet with a great vibe when busy. The food offering and quality is also very good. Staff are very friendly and always a warm welcome guaranteed. Keep up the good work.

Smashing hotel. Lovely building, location and surroundings, helpful staff. The outside dining area would be charming if it wasn't drizzling! The bedroom was clean and comfortable, I slept like a log.

Bradley and Sherri 10/10, all staff from the early morning cleaner and reception staff all friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable.

The room was large and comfortable enough but it was surprising to see thick black mould behind the bath taps. Also, the window frames were in poor repair and the sealant holding in the glass was covered in mould. Breakfast was standard fare, staff were pleasant.

Went for lunch but felt it was underwhelming. Ciabatta was ok, the salad garnish with the food was just mixed lettuce leaves and a tomato. It didn't appear to be fresh, the leaves were brown, no dressing so tasteless. Noticed everyone around had left their salad. No salt and pepper and any dressing offered. Service not good, had to leave to go and put extra money in the car park. The chips arrived after we'd nearly finished the Ciabatta. Felt £4.50 for a coke was also a bit excessive.

Went there with my sister for a special lunch on Monday 17 th July we decided we would try the honey roast ham egg and chips which was a big mistake the ham was out of a pkt chips and eggs overcooked the meal was awful while we were there no one came up to our table to ask us if everything was ok I wish. We had gone somewhere different as it was a real let down get your act together please the food has really gone downhill

Stayed for 3 nights midweek, we had an executive room 112 which was nice and spacious, only 2 things let the rm down was a constant noise especially at night sounded like a fridge running very annoying, then there was the curtains they did not fit window properly and had looked like large drawing pins holding them to frame, not what I expected from this hotel, that's why not 5 stars. Breakfast was very good with for us enough selection of food. Staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel in Great position less than 5 mins to bus station and 10 - 15 mins to train station walking times, plenty of shops in high street if you forgot something. Would use again if in area.
