I'm not often moved to leave food reviews but have made an exception for the Red Lion in Heytesbury!

The steak and stilton pie I had was absolutely incredible. A huge slice from what must have been a vast pie! Absolutely stuffed with delicious meat and the precise amount of stilton to complement the filling without being over powering. The accompanying veg was perfectly steamed.

After a short internal battle between my moderation and gluttony I ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was also absolutely delicious, subtly spiced to cut through the sweetness and accompanied by a generous serving of ice cream.

The staff were very friendly and attentive and the pub is set in the beautiful village of Heytesbury with gorgeous walks along the Wylye river on the doorstep.

Cheap and cheerful very much a trick stop but lovely friendly staff and atmosphere and great value. Shame they don't open all weekend I'm sure they'd get plenty of business.

The Sunday roast is to die for. What a lovely welcoming and warm space. Brought some friends with us this time and my goodness it’s better than I remember. We came here about a year ago and fell in love with the food and the general vibe of the place. So much so we planned a hike on the white horse hill in westbury just to come here afterwards. Can’t recommend this place enough. Love that it’s dog friendly and all of the locals were happy to chat with us. One very happy content and tired beagle and four very full and happy bellies!
