Great outback pub atmosphere. Loved the music especially the dreadlock haired singer and the old fella on the cow bones. Cheap drinks, good meals and facility. An absolute must gor the outback camper experience

Fantastic old pub. Great food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping here for a meal on your way to Cooktown. I felt that the T-shirt’s were a little over priced, but how can you leave without getting one from such an iconic establishment?

The last camp at the end of our 18 day tour from Cairns to the Cape and back. What a massive disappointment. Muddy, very crowded, smelly toilet area, extremely loud music from the adjacent neighbours, loud low grade music from the ‘entertainer’ in the evening. Slow food delivery (one hour) my friends order was missed. Cops were wandering around looking for someone. The only saving grace was a swim in the river.

This hotel is a must see when in Cooktown area. Great caravan park but more importantly the staff were so friendly and welcoming Other business in the area could learn a thing or two We had a beautiful lunch barramundi salad whilst hubby had the big burger

We stopped for a drink at the Lions Den hotel while sightseeing around Cooktown. It’s a great location with some very interesting items from the past. Some of the photos and antiquities would indicate it has been there for a very long time. The pub itself is quite interesting so we had to have a drink there.

Just been sold to a new hotellier was a cool experience. Places round the back you can fall into after a night of drinking or glamp. The waterhole behind it was amazing. Friday Saturday nights bands play but in the tourist season nearly every night.

We stopped here for lunch after driving up the Bloomfield Track from Cape Tribulation and it's fair to say the Lions Den stands out like a sore thumb, a rambling structure constructed from rough-hewn hardwood slabs, rusty sheets of corrugated iron and I think even a few sheets of canvas. The pub has a history dating back to the 1880s and loads of personality, with lots of artifacts and memorabilia on display. It's almost a case of part pub, part museum. We arrived with a group tour, so our smorgasbord lunch of cold cuts and salad was prepared and our tables laid out when we arrived. It was all very good - but I can't comment on their regular menu which seemed to focus on pub faves like fish and chips, parmis, and steaks. What else to report - the beer is cold and the coffee is expensive, $7 for a cappuccino, though was quite a large one.

Interesting place with a long history. Enjoyed a cold beer and the comfortable surroundings. Staff were friendly and wide range of souvenir items offered for sale at varying prices. Certainly worth a visit if only for its historical significance.

Stayed twice , food is ok other than a dodgy seafood pizza on second visit. The Dongas are okay but the showers and toilets are in need of some love. Live music was pretty cool to help with the atmosphere. Worth a visit though, staff are lovely.

Travelling in a small 4WD coach-group with a local driver who knew his way around, we arrived at the Lions Den for lunch. What a kinky place which could have taken up hours to explore properly. Corrugated iron features strongly in the decor. Having pre-booked we had an allocated table under cover outdoors. The menu was extensive pub food, and the food arrived fairly quickly in large servings and very satisfying preparation.
