Full of drug users, and a fat guy called Charlie who lies to everyone about you if he doesn't like

Went to the sportsman on the way to the rememberance parade with a friend. Never been before and always been a bit weary about going there as it has a reputation of being an old man’s pub. How wrong were we ! We went back with the whole of our group. What a lovely atmosphere! We’re ex service men and the respect we got was unbelievable! But what was so special was that the barmaid gave everyone the same attention as we got regardless of who we were. Lou the 5th (as I heard one regular call you) was amazing and such a credit to the pub. She was polite attentive and considering she was on her own working in such a busy pub on a special day she managed to keep everyone who was waiting entertained and she was serving 3 people at once !!! What a barmaid!! We returned after instead of going to the royal Enfield. Cheap and amazing beer/larger. Where on this town can you get a round of drinks for 7 people for less than £30! Will definitely be returning again. Only down side is as much as it’s the perfect “old man’s pub” it could do with a lick of paint ( but to be honest maybe that what makes it an old man’s pub) but other than that both staff and regulars were welcoming and a joy to be around. 100% recommend this place to anyone.

It's a true English pub no frills and lots of characters. We had a great night thanks to the landlord and his barmaid.
