I wanted somewhere a bit special to stay to celebrate my 40th birthday. We researched around and found The Great House.Everything was wonderful. The hotel was superbly clean and staff were very helpful. We would 100% stay here again. It surpassed expectations.PS. The remote control is in the drawer.Rooms: The rooms are very spacious and the little kitchenette was wonderful to have.Safety: It felt very safe.Noteworthy details: The only downside is that the water from the pipes was absolutely awful and you couldn’t make a cup of tea with it. This is easily avoided by picking up a bottle of spring water to use in the kettle instead! This completely solved the problem.

Lovely location and place! Peter on the front desk was a gem for our late check-in (delayed coming out of London). Personal and professional! Thank you all for a lovely break!

The perfect little weekend away in February - we stayed at The Great House for 2 nights and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Check in was smooth and easy, price was excellent for the facilities, and the bedroom was gorgeous. Will definitely visit again.

Our first time here visiting the area to walk the dog and this place is dog friendly. This was an ok visit. Service could have been better but was not bad but not great. The garlic and mozzarella bread was not very good, But the winter salad with chicken was extremely nice. This is quite an upmarket, pricey place so just expected a little more from this place that just average service.

So good that we've booked for next year s New Year already...stayed here after doing the Mill Theatres at Sonning for a lNew Years show there...Rooms very comfortable ,maybe the bathroom vanity units need an upgrade(Room 76),but all in all a lovely placevto stay, and the breakfast at the Coppa restraunt was great ?.

Yummy Tummy

My first review of 2024, shame not a good one...We just wanted to have some coffee at about 3pm, because we only wanted drinks, we weren't treated nicely, in fact we were turned back, then saw lots of empty seats at the back, then reluctantly given some table... And this is the untouched flat white I got, cold and in a dirty unclean cup!!!

Lovely, quirky place, with excellent, attentive staff and decent food. Clean and comfortable, although I drew the short straw with a tiny room (could barely walk around the bed) - this wouldn't have been suitable for a couple.Would have been 5 stars had it not been for a strange loud whirring & banging noise that woke me up at 6am - looked outside and couldn't identify it, and it hadn't gone away by the time I left the room at 8am, so very frustrating. It's also not the best for phone signal/not served by Uber.

The food is amazing. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. The location is awesome with the river being a stones throw

Continues to fall short in pretty much everything, Service, staff, value for money, used to be fantastic, and despite continued constructive feedback to the management, and assurances that it's a 'one off', it gets worse, regardless of day or time of the week.

The hotel is very nicely appointed, rooms small but really cute. Reason for lower score is service, there are six staff in the restaurant and maybe ten tables used, mainly empty and I failed to order in 30 mins and was totally ignored. Shame its in the middle of nowhere but at least the Bull had a warm welcome around the corner.EDIT on return to super hot room, even with radiator off, I realised the towels are filthy, the cases have to be left on a dirty carpet, the bedside lights all flicker and give me a headache, the car park has a security light shining into rooms and its very noisy. Traffic noise, people leaving and the chef having a loud conversation about cars outside my window at almost 11pm.This is a superficially lovely hotel but actually the details are completely missed. I wont be back nor recommending to other colleagues.Rooms: Poor, hot, dirty but look nice at first glanceWalkability: PoorFood & drinks: They don’t appear to serve some guests so I dont know. Best advise is stay somewhere else if you want anything to eat.

Very slow service. This was troubling having two 2 year olds as part of the party. The food was dry and overcooked. We didn't bother to stay for desserts because nobody came to clear the table.Very disappointing as I had taken my family there for my 70th birthday meal.Noteworthy details: I have put those in the section above. It has never been this bad before. I certainly won't recommend it to any of my friends.
