Beautiful afternoon tea,

I booked this hotel and spa for my partners 30th birthday and wanted it be special. I also made dinner reservations at their restaurant. I spoke to them a week or two in advance to let them know it was for my fiancés birthday and requested a happy birthday dessert in advance for my fiancé for his birthday which was not done and this was of course disappointing. There was also no complimentary birthday plate in our room either which was offered to me when making the booking. We were also informed that there no chef at breakfast and he just didn’t turn up that morning so the only option we had was for a full English breakfast, which wasn’t cooked to a good standard, the eggs were over cooked and sausages burnt. I definitely wouldn’t recommend here for a special occasion and overall was very disappointed. It’s nice for a quick spa getaway and spa facilities were lovely.

While an impressive building this is a fairly small hotel in terms of room numbers, so it remains somewhere which offers a personal level of service in traditional style. Reception is merely a shelf on the side of the hallway but the staff are welcoming and try to assist with any query. Off the lobby is a nice reception room with a small bar and decent seating, which is a good place to get a casual lunch, or drink late at night too. There’s no lifts in the building, so heavy bags can be a bit of a pain on the staircases but all the communal areas are decorated nicely and in keeping with the rest of the property. My room was on the 1st floor and impressive size wise. There was plenty of space in the main bedroom area with two bedside tables, a desk, separate unit with drink making facilities as well as coffee table with chairs. The room was a traditional design with wooden beams in the ceiling and the creaky floor added to the character. Sleep quality was good with a decent bed and a window which opened rather than air conditioning. Electric sockets were on the floor by the side of the bed and there was no noise from other rooms or outside. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and again, very traditional in terms of fixtures and decor with a shower over the bath rather than a separate unit. Overall it’s a pleasant hotel, certainly acting as a retreat for those wanting a relaxing experience. For the right kind of stay it should certainly be considered.

We were guests on Sunday 6/8 at our friends 70th Birthday celebrations. We reiterate all the positive comments mentioned in the previous review. On arrival the ambience of the hotel was warm and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable Dinner in the evening was fabulous all beautifully served by Adam who was attentive but not intrusive. Breakfast the following morning was cooked to order and delicious. A great experience enjoyed by all and have no reservations in highly recommending this hotel.

We booked this hotel for one night the day before arrival for nine people on a half board basis for a 70th Birthday celebration after the hotel we had previously booked appeared to be experiencing a high level of negative reviews. We booked a table in the restaurant and asked if we could all be seated on the same table. Georgia told us that she would do what she could but the restaurant was busy and we may need to be split into two groups. On arrival at the hotel we were warmly greeted by Wilfred and arrangements were made for us to be seated in the lounge for drinks which were served by Grae who is a delightful girl who made us all feel extremely welcome. One of our party had brought a Birthday cake which Grae brought to the table and she arranged for us to have plates and forks. We were then told by Wilfred that we would be served dinner in the Grenfell Lounge which had been allocated to us as private party. The Grenfell Lounge is a fabulous room full of character with informal seating as well as a formal dining area. We were allowed to decorate it with bunting and banners and when we arrived for dinner we were allocated Adam as our waiter for the evening. Adam arranged the drinks, table service and made sure that the evening was a total success which it was. The food itself was exceptional and of the highest quality which the whole party thoroughly enjoyed. The rooms were comfortable and clean with all the usual bits and bobs that you would expect in a hotel of this standard. Breakfast was served for us as a private party in the Grenfell Lounge and we were able to take a walk in the grounds afterwards before heading off having had a wonderful time at this hotel where we were made to feel very special by all of the staff previously mentioned. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough

Fantastic stay from start to finish . Staff are friendly and attentive, we had Champagne Afternoon tea on the terrace. Staff made sure everything was perfect -customer service in the restaurant was the best I’ve experienced in a long time. Room was spotless and decorated to a really high standard , as was the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was perfect , and again restaurant staff couldn’t do enough .

We had afternoon tea today at this beautiful hotel. The setting is tranquil and the hotel is stylish and fresh whilst still being true to its history. The tea was delicious, the scones were fresh and warm and there was plenty of cream (I hate when places skimp on the cream!). The cakes were also delicious, with a good variety of flavours. The staff were attentive and respectful. A lovely place to spend a peaceful afternoon or special event. I would highly recommend.

Stayed 2 nights on a midweek break, impressive looking hotel and garden, plenty of parking.Room wasn’t ready when we arrived around 1 - not surprising - strangely for a hotel we weren’t pointed to their bar / restaurant whilst we waited to get to our room? Hotel is abit isolated but we walked up the hill to the local pub otherwise I think it would have been back to towards Maidenhead for food etc or stay in the hotel for the all day dining. Reception is a desk against a wall so don’t look for a big desk on entry. Anyway back we came, we had a room up 2 flights of stairs, no lifts in the hotel but they did offer to help with bags. Got there and door key wouldn’t work, back downstairs, they activated it again back again and it still didn’t work so back down again! Staff v apologetic saying a new key system was being introduced the following week, so like another reviewer we had to get a staff member to let us into our room each time, no replacement room or key. Anyway room - Cedar - was nice though if you have mobility / leg issues it’s not fir you, shower over the bath which is quite steep to get into and bath fairly close to the toilet so very difficult to get in and out of. Food is as described on the online menu. We had soup in the terrace, nice but we had to ask for the bread n butter then they only brought 1 lot. Food in the evening was lovely, monkfish maybe a tad overcooked but nice. Breakfast is freshly cooked, the scrambled eggs and omelette looked a strange brown colour but tasted ok. Next day they forgot our fried eggs and had to bring them out separately, they weren’t a brown colour. Meanwhile the key issue got resolved on the second day, when we got home at 6 the receptionist tried to reactivate the key and it worked. All in all a nice break in a good hotel which would be even better without the niggles. All staff though are friendly, helpful and seem happy at work

The good: food (tip top) staff absolutely lovely. The disappointing: our room was really really small! Not a good space for 2 adults to relax in. Room key card issue … we had to ask a member of reception staff to let us into our room, every time we needed access our entire stay. Simply telling us it was an issue that is being fixed soon does not make that ok. A different room would’ve been a good alternative and great customer service. This sadly wasn’t offered.

I took my mum for lunch for her birthday on Thursday and we dined overlooking the beautiful gardens. The restaurant is obviously newly refurbished and the food was amazing. Mum had the sea bream and I had the pear, cheese and walnut salad. The desserts were divine - banoffee cheesecake with gingerbread ice cream and treacle tart with sorbet. The team were very attentive and friendly, especially Cara who looked after us. We will return as the spa days look very relaxing, being a small hotel there is a lovely, intimate atmosphere. Thank you!

I have just had a lovely two night spa break here in June with my daughter. The building and public rooms are gorgeous. Our bedroom was comfy with a nice big bath in the bathroom. It would have been nice to have the toiletries renewed for the second day. We were late booking and when I phoned up I was told all the spa treatments were fully booked which was hugely disappointing but a member of staff spoke to the spa team and managed to book both of us in for a treatment. I had a wonderful neck, shoulder and head massage from Elis and my daughter had a full body massage, also with Elis and said it was the best she had ever had. Although the spa amenities are a little bit limited if you are looking for a full spa experience what was available was lovely, with lots of comfy loungers to lie out on in the beautiful grounds. Dinner was good but a little limited on the selection and maybe something to reflect a bit more seasonality/local produce would be nice. Breakfast which was included in the package both mornings was excellent. Our main observation was that the majority staff were very young and a little inexperienced. They were absolutely charming but probably need a little more training in confidence about bringing things like water/ menus and the wine order without prompting.

Me & my boyfriend had a lovely stay here made even better by the staff. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and the room was lovely. The service was great and so was the food! We enjoyed a lovely dinner not feeling rushed at all with lots of options to choose from! Thank you to the team for making us feel so welcome and making our stay so special. Just wanted to add a special thank you to Alison and the housekeeping team for doing the lovely heart petals in our room and making it that little bit more special. Highly recommend staying here, lovely food & drink and such a relaxing environment. Will definitely be back soon.

The first thing you notice when you arrive is how pretty the property is. Very beautiful grounds with well kept patio and places to sit outside. I was asked to wait in the bar when I arrived. Really pretty hotel entrance and superb attentive service. I was a little disappointed by the spa overall. The jacuzzi and sauna were lovely and still look and feel brand new... but there were no lounge chairs to relax? Only seats. In a spa I think this is an absolute must! They seemed to have a lot of treatment rooms (the one I was in was very big) which could be a relaxation room. My spa treatment was really strange. A pop song started playing half way through, and when the treatment was over, my therapist stayed in the room and it felt like I was being pushed out! Also, although she was very talented, the whole experience was quite uncomfortable and she held me in uncomfortable positions! Maybe she was a new member of staff.... she seemed quite nervous. Overall, it had huge potential, but wasn't very relaxing... and for £+100 you want to feel relaxed. Food was very good and staff were incredibly helpful.

This is a nice hidden gem. Lovely manor style tea rooms overlooking the property/gardens. Had the afternoon tea set for two. Plate of sandwich’s, plate of hot scones with your creams/jams and large plate of cakes. Mango tea lovely. Nice friendly staff.
