With so many local places closed down for the winter it was a relief to find a pub open and serving food. It was a bonus to find an initiative in place offering reduced food on a Thursday, though I don’t know how long this initiative will be running for. The food was average, perfectly edible but not of restaurant quality. The beer was good and there were plenty of tables to choose from. We’d visit this place again if we were in the area.

Don't have the stew. No gravy or liquid and the meat was tough. Masb was cold. When we asked for gravy, they served a tepid brown water. Adding a photo. Dark gravy was with a different meal. Light brown was the tepid brown water I was talking about. This is the only bad review I have ever had to write. Avoid at all costs.

My husband and I were accompanied by our dog here in September 2023 to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my birthday. We both had steak, which was one of the best we have eaten, followed by desert and coffee and a couple of glasses of prosecco. The service was excellent from the moment we got there to the time we left. I would highly recommend a visit you will not be disappointed.

If I could give less than one star I would. I am not one to put a bad review on or complain if it wasn’t a true representation. If anything, it always feels good to be writing a lovely review!l however, I really can’t say the same for this pub. It was my brothers 19th birthday and we are here on holiday. We have been coming to Cornwall for the last 5/6 years and have experienced different types of Pubs and have found some truly lovely Cornish pubs with great pub grub! This one was the worst we have ever been to…. The pub itself has a lovely feel but when we ordered food, we did not expect for the Mac & Cheese to be sat in water and for the burger buns to have mould on. We told the girl who was on the bar and she couldn’t have been more apologetic and took them back for them to be re-done. They came back, the chips had been microwaved as were soggy, the burger buns were stale and the burger was red raw in the middle. My partners was barely even browned on the outside. We were all so disappointed and put off our meal which had now ruined my brothers birthday. The waitress apologised and said all food would be taken off the bill which we explained, it was not about the money but about the fact the night had been ruined. The chef then came out and explained there was a trainee in the kitchen tonight and had seen the food and sincerely apologised. He said he was filling out paperwork and wasn’t supervising. It has truly ruined the night as, due to the time in the evening, there is no where else serving food. The owners response was appalling and didn’t even speak to us personally. The only positive I would say would be the lovely waitress who must now been extremely embarrassed.

Visited here on a Friday night a few weeks ago as we were staying locally and had a okay meal. I had the scampi and chips and was not the best I have ever had but was not too bad. Staff were friendly enough and was a nice atmosphere, but was just a bit disappointed about the food.

Booked for lunch and we were a party of 7 but that was no issue atall.\\nThe food was great everyone was happy in our group.\\nGreat choice of drinks and we ate well as the portions were good.\\nSat outside in the garden was delightful but there is a road next to the pub so keep an eye on the kids.\\nWe would return, also finally the staff were great and there's ample parking

Lovely old inn full of character and nice place to spend an evening . Staff v friendly and really enjoyed the food and ales . Enjoyed a few days stay with bedrooms comfortable and clean and car parking available . Used as base for exploring area and it is very handy for this . Only small issues were toilet flush not working entirely properly and TV kept turning itself on sometimes in middle of night ( eventually sorted ) . Bed also rather tall for someone with mobility issues . Overall though a v enjoyable stay .

Stayed here end of June for 3 nights. Pub is 16th century very nice bar area is good and staff can't do enough for you. Food is pretty average ( I'm vegetarian and is very limited) breakfast was nice but again limited for vegan or vegetarian The room was clean and tidy small bathroom though and had to ask for toilet roll every day we were there as it was not replenish. Although it was refurbished 3 yrs ago it is not to a high standard the finishing on the wallpapering has alot to be desired! Furnishings and bed of high quality though. All in all overpriced we paid £450 for 3 nights. Staff make the place really so big ? to them think management need to look at pricing and value for money! Just a few touches like food and attention to details would make a massive difference.

Friendly welcome, lovely pint, loved the surroundings and the vibe, we went on Sunday eve hoping for a roast but unfortunately l they don’t do roasts on a Sunday…no biggie, we ordered burgers at £15.50 each..it was the most average burger ever! The the meat was nice but bun was dry and was disintegratin like it had been left out.. it had the smallest amount of cheese in it and just some relish (not homemade) and a slice of salad tomato. The chips were just like fried McCain’s and a bit dried out.. for £15.50 I was expecting so much more! Such a shame cause it was a lovely pub and great staff, the food was such a let down. Hope you take the comments on board and give your burgers a bit of an overhaul!

Was a nice friendly pub and we ate in the bar area. The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for us. The fish pie was delicious. My partner who is vegetarian (not vegan) always comes off worse. He had the vegan asian curry. It was tasty but lacking in vegetables and substance and a very tiny tiny portion.

Visited here on a rare date night with my husband. The bar itself is cute and quirky. The staff were warm and welcoming. Service was quick the food was hot and delicious. Really glad we tried it.
