Went with group for a birthday celebration. Tom behind the bar was brilliant, welcoming, on point with a packed demanding pub. Keeping everyone happy and engaging with the clientele as he served quality ale and and food. The cheesy chips were to die for. Lots of folk musicians and great atmosphere.

a cosy, snug eatery, well sited close to the centre of town. we had lunch here which was nice, although a little more vegetarian choice would have been nice. the cheese selection was interesting.

We drove down from Surrey to experience what we were told was the best roast dinner!! It didn’t disappoint.
Bar staff were very helpful and welcoming. The pub has a really cozy atmosphere. What I would call a proper pub.

Massive portions of meat and all the trimmings. The lamb was exceptional and some of the most tender I have ever had.

Great experience. We will be back!

We had a lovely lunch here, the staff were welcoming and the locals friendly, the veggie risotto we had was delicious, only disappointing thing was online they only show the main menu but this isn’t served at lunch so it’s a reduced menu, wished we’d known in advance as we booked a taxi thinking there’d be more substantial options that would go well with some wine ?

Oh where to begin! The restaurant is attached to the hotel and very spacious, the tables are arranged so it doesn't feel crowded at all. The dining are is very well done and looks to have been recently refurbished. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The food was amazingly good. They have an amazing vegan menu of about 40-50 items, so wonderful to find a place where choice paralysis is a problem for vegans rather than the opposite. Vegan wines are also marked on the menu which is great, more places should start doing that. We had the Vegan sharing platter, the faux fish in sweet chilli sauce and a mixed friend rice with faux char sui, faux beef and faux chicken. Everything was excellent, hot and in such massive portions that my stomach was groaning by the end. Seriously the vegan options at this place are so good I wholeheartedly recommend it for vegans! Thank you for a great night!

I stumbled across The Tavern in Bodmin almost by accident, and what a find it turned out to be. This cosy little pub is run by a warm and welcoming Portuguese family who have brought a slice of their culinary tradition right into the heart of Cornwall. From the moment you step inside, you get a sense of genuine hospitality — the kind of place where you feel like a guest in someone’s home rather than just another customer.

The food is centred around Portuguese tapas, and every dish we tried was just packed with flavour. There’s something so satisfying about small plates done properly — fresh ingredients, simple but thoughtful preparation, and that unmistakable Portuguese flair for seasoning. Each plate felt like a little discovery, and together they built into a meal that was vibrant, comforting, and delicious.

But the absolute standout for me was their take on the traditional sandwich — I believe it’s called a francesinha. Describing it as a sandwich doesn’t quite do it justice: it’s layered, rich, drenched in sauce, and honestly one of the most ridiculously delicious things I’ve eaten in a long time. It’s indulgent in the best possible way and the sort of dish you’d come back for again and again.

What makes The Tavern so special isn’t just the food, though — it’s the atmosphere. There’s a relaxed, unpretentious charm, and you can really feel the pride the family has in sharing their heritage. It’s the kind of pub you’d happily linger in for an evening with friends, enjoying good food, good wine, and a sense of community.

All in all, The Tavern is a gem. Bodmin is lucky to have it, and I would absolutely come back — in fact, I’m already looking forward to my next visit. If you’re in Cornwall and want to try something a bit different from the usual pub fare, this is a spot well worth seeking out.

I promised staff a 5 star review after their hospitality. A person in our group got far too drunk too quickly and I couldn’t fault the lads on shift that night. It was a busy night, and all they did was constantly check up on her, provide glasses of water despite being busy and even helped me feed her after they stopped cooking for the night.

With so many local places closed down for the winter it was a relief to find a pub open and serving food. It was a bonus to find an initiative in place offering reduced food on a Thursday, though I don’t know how long this initiative will be running for. The food was average, perfectly edible but not of restaurant quality. The beer was good and there were plenty of tables to choose from. We’d visit this place again if we were in the area.

Had my wife's 60th birthday celebration here last night, and had an amazing time. Claire from the reception team was really helpful in booking this. The food was lovely, very well done to the chef. 15 meals, all served at exactly the same time, all hot, and all really lovely. The serving team were brilliant and so friendly, particularly Jane. We had such a good evening, thank you.
We had looked at several hotels, when looking to book this celebration meal, and were so glad that we chose Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club :).

They squeezed me and my wife in near bar when i phoned eatlier in day ,despite being very busy. Food turned up within 20 minutes, even though busy, and it was lovely.
