We came here last week and were hugely disappointed that the standards of the pub has gone down significantly. The service and quality of the pub are terrible. Too many young staff working who come across inexperienced. The manager doesn’t seem to make any effort with customers and came across unfriendly. The atmosphere was ok due to the lead up to Christmas. It’s a shame as this is our local pub; it used to be so warm and welcoming. We now definitely won’t be coming back.

I booked a night to stay here to visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. I was coming from Bristol but due to heavy flooding this last week all the trains were cancelled on the route on the day I was to travel. I can't drive and even if I could I doubt I could have made it due to the flooding. They refused to allow me to cancel my booking as I couldn't make it and I had pre-paid. I provided screenshots from GWR to prove I couldn't get there. So not only did I not get a holiday I lost money too. Of all the nasty, petty ways to treat people! Stupid, too. If they had agreed I would have been happy to book with them again and come down later in the year. Now there's no chance and I hope other people will think twice before giving this place their money.

The meal was utterly atrocious. There were six of us having dinner. Four ordered a steak pie and chips. None of us could put a knife through the pastry. We mentioned this is the nicest of manners. We were then offered slices of bread and butter to compensate. We asked to speak to the manager who kept avoiding us.The establishment seemed to be run by teenagers. Such a shame this was our local and it seems to have deteriorated rapidly. I definitely would not recommend.

I've had two meals here with family in the last week, and they were both lovely.Fantastic food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere, friendly people and one of the best roasts I’ve ever had in a pub. If we lived closer, we’d definitely be regulars!

Wonderful food and atmosphere, one of our favourite pubs to visit for a Sunday roast.

The landlady makes no effort to be warm and welcoming. She looks and acts like she hates her job. She only chats to the hardened regulars surrounding the bar but everyone else is treated like an inconvenience. The tables are sticky, there's no extra touches, to make your meal special. No candles or tealights. It comes across like she only wants your money and doesn't give a hoot about the service she's supposed to be supplying.Parking: Available parking round the back

As a local, we do use the pub reasonably regularly. Always been pretty good. Had a Sunday roast today and it was probably the worst we've had anywhere in a long time....They said there wasn't any Sunday roast left when we arrived (which was poor as we had booked for a Sunday roast). But the lack of veg and the vegan option was terrible.Really disappointing.

Stayed there for 2 nights. Hostess wasn’t friendly. I felt like the rooms and pub lacked hygiene. Didn’t feel comfortable. Almost no service and WiFi in the rooms. Won’t return and I don’t recommend sleeping here. The food was okay.

The food was below average ..the vegetarian option was very poor and unappetizing . My fish and chips were unexciting . The staff were friendly. Overall the pub was dirty and tired.

We had been walking in the area and decided to stop at the Black Swan for a lunch. One of their specials on the blackboard was a "cold meat platter with a bowl of chips" for £13.,95. We decided that would be a good lunch to be shared and so opted for that., When it came out however it was totally different. There was only one piece of meat and 3 huge pieces of cheese - also no chips ! But - can I just say - although it was not exactly what was ordered - it was an absolutely brilliant "ploughmans" lunch. The bread rolls were warm and crisp, the gammon ham was a lovely big slab and beautifully tender. We were given Cheddar, Brie and a Cornish Blue - big slabs of each - with piccalilli and coleslaw -both tasted home-made - plus some lettuce and salady bits. It was a great lunch - and we did'nt need the chips with it. So - thank you Black Swan for a really tasty lunch - perhaps to be on the safe side you need to change the description though ........ !!!!!!!!
