We have stayed in Lostwithiel on three occasions now since 2016, and every time have found The Royal Oak the best place to eat and drink, even travelling from other Cornish holiday destinations at other times to call in for lunch. We had dinner four nights out of seven this week, and enjoyed every meal and the drinks. The locals are all really friendly, talking to you and even making room at the bar to help you get served. The staff are all really helpful and friendly with a special shout out for Leanne. (sorry for nearly ripping your earring out last night saying goodbye).

Stayed here on a Thursday night in late December. The rooms are decorated in a traditional and quirky way, and overall cleanliness was reasonable, though some areas show signs of age.The staff was friendly, but I can't comment on breakfast quality as we left at 8 am, and the hotel couldn't accommodate this early. Instead, they made sandwiches for lunch.Unfortunately and the reasoning behind my two stars is the consistent noise from the pub until 3 am. This was disruptive and frustrating.I understand it was december and christmas party season but to still be playing music and partying until 3am at a hotel with paying residents is just unacceptable, it seems the owners just don't care which is disappointing.I left tired and angry.

Great pub. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Different things on through the week quiz/dj/live music. Staff friendly.

Booked a table for 2 humans for the Sunday roast, accompanied by 2 dogs. They were very welcoming and sat us in a comfortable corner, we were very happy with this as one of our dogs has a desire to say hello to everyone, being out of the way helped her, and us, to relax. There was a choice of 3 meats, turkey, pork or beef. My husband had the pork and I had the beef. We were not disappointed, not only was there plenty to eat, it was all cooked to perfection, I can’t abide soggy veg, the cauliflower cheese was amazing! Another of my quirks is I like my food to be hot and this didn’t disappoint, everything was piping hot. Although they were busy, we didn’t feel rushed and were given time after our main course to settle before we decided on dessert. We had the apple crumble and the sticky toffee sponge both with custard. Apart from my personal preference would have been for a thicker custard, the desserts didn’t disappoint either. My sticky toffee sponge was light and fluffy, not at all stodgy, perfect after a big meal. After enjoying a fabulous meal, we were pleasantly surprised by the bill, extremely good value for money. Thank you to all the staff at The Royal Oak for making our visit so very enjoyable and for welcoming our furry friends too.

MEAL ONLYMy wife and I attended this lovely pub in the beautiful town of Lostwithiel for a pre-booked group Christmas meal. The pub does have customer parking and there is a free car park a short distance away.I had a pate starter which was well presented with fresh salad with dressing. It was excellent.I chose the turkey for the main course which was also fantastic. The meat was perfectly cooked, moist and tender. It was served with beautifully cooked roast potatoes, roast parsnips, pigs in blankets, mashed potato and stuffing with gravy. There was also shared dish with plenty of vegetables, sprouts, garden peas and carrots. All perfectly cooked with more than enough for all present. From the selection of desserts I had the trillionaires tart which was again excellent.Other diners had the salmon parcels for starters or the fishcakes with either beef or salmon for their main courses. I can say that all of these dishes were well presented and they all looked delicious.I wasn't expecting quite such a good meal considering we were a large party with all the meals served at once but it was probably one of the best Christmas lunches I have had in a pub.The service was excellent and all in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience. A huge thank you to the Royal Oak Inn team, we will be back.
