British Restaurants in St Austell

“We booked this pub/restaurant for Sunday lunch without having any idea what to expect, but as soon as we walked through the door we knew it was going to be great. It has been sympathetically refurbished in soft earthy colours with soft oak tables and chairs and a flagstone floor. Busy but not crowded, there was a nice vibe. First we sank into one of two lovely squashy leather sofas to enjoy a beer and have a read of our paper before lunch. The menu was reassuringly simple, promising a few dishes cooked really well. When the young man informed us that they had run out of the roast beef my heart sank, but he then told us that the chef would cook us a sirloin steak. I wasn’t sure that it would be the same but I was very wrong! The meat was perfectly cooked to a medium (we could have asked for rare but chose to let chef decide) and was beautifully tender. The huge dish of various vegetables, perfectly cooked with little caramelised chunks of carrot and parsnip, red and green cabbage and cauliflower and broccoli cheese was beautifully seasoned. No need for salt and pepper here. This was a perfect Sunday roast, the best we have had (and we have visited plenty of good establishments over the years) the crowning glory for me was the horseradish sauce, somehow whipped into a fluffy little taste bomb! Lovely surroundings, great food and really good people doing a great job. We will be back Thankyou”

“A cosy restaurant so understandably our first evening choice for dining was fully booked. We were fortunate to get a table on our second to last night and we were not disappointed. Great service, lovely ambience and a number of very interesting options on the menu. If I was being a bit picky, the steak was a little under cooked for the medium order but nevertheless still very enjoyable. The fish was excellent, nice vegetables and a good wine list. This restaurant is thoroughly recommended.”
