The restaurant at the St. Moritz hotel is a pretty and friendly spot. The Wednesday night special of Moules with fries, bread and a drink is bargainous for such an upscale beach resort. The food is delicious and plentiful and the service is always friendly and efficient.

Absurd difference in service from breakfast to dinner. At breakfast everything was streamlined and efficient, servers were polite and courteous and couldn't do enough. Come the evening, everything was sloppy, staff seemed confused and took far too much time to put a simple drinks order together. Not a great experience, though food was consistently good at least!

What a gorgeous place and even more gorgeous staff - we phoned after 5 asking for a cream tea - the kitchen had finished their daily scones by this time. Zoe and charlotte called the kitchen who offered to make a fresh batch and apologised for the 20-25 wait!! How lovely of them all - my elderly mum was with us and it really did make her day - we were served hot fresh scones which were fabulous and the lovely Harry on front of house was a delight - thank you to vicki and Ben in the kitchen who made our food as well as our day - we were expecting a much more expensive bill too but it was so reasonable we were shocked - thank you all for welcoming and bending over backwards to accommodate us even though we weren’t residents of the hotel / truly wonderful and would thoroughly recommend

This is a very nice hotel, with an ambience and decor in the main areas leading one to expect very good food. The reception and area and bar are stunning, but the restaurant itself feels more like a cafeteria. I could not fault the quality of the staff but service was very slow and they admitted to being under-staffed. Six of us each had a main course and we also shared some sort of bacon jam doughnut which was a main course option but the waiter very sensibly suggested we didn't have as a main course. It seemed interesting to try but it was terrible. He did at least knock it off the bill. I had crab cakes which appeared to be mainly brown crab meat and potato and I really didn't like them, disappointing as I love seafood. three of the party had burgers which I was told weren't very nice either. I would be happy to stay in the hotel but wouldn't want dinner there.

We had the most disappointing stay at the St Moritz - honestly the service was shocking. We were at the hotel with a young baby; before making the booking I was assured they will be able to give me some food that's appropriate. At breakfast (~9 am) I asked if I could get a few steamed vegetables (any vegetables and just a handful steamed) by 10.30 / 10.45 for my baby's lunch. The only restaurant that serves lunch at the hotel has a pizza menu, and my baby has a dairy allergy. A lady then comes back to me and says - sorry they're preparing breakfast for 100 covers and they can't do this before 11.30 or 12. At the time, there were a total of 11 people at breakfast and it was a buffet. The only thing to order was eggs. I said it was literally any vegetable and just steamed and she refused. I then went to talk to the manager onsite, who told me - well it must be because they're busy. I contested this given the abovementioned context, and was told, given it's Cornwall all their food arrives fresh, and they wouldn't have anything in the fridge. When I asked him - do they really throw out every single vegetable from the evening before, he said yes - they don't keep a single thing, which I find implausible, wasteful and problematic on another level. I said, well I am staying here and I checked before booking -- he told me there would be plenty of other places in Polzeath I could drive to and buy my baby an early lunch. I have to confess I am completely appalled at this behavior and level of service. Truly shocking. Another member of the wedding party was staying at a near by BnB and her host organized the food for us instead. Horrific. Not to mention we had other issues with the reception staff and housekeeping not showing up on one day despite us having called reception in advance (as they don't have a sign for housekeeping you can hang on your door). The only exception was the fantastic service we got from Petra in the restaurant. Avoid this place until they can reevaluate what standard they want to set for Cornish hospitality.

I have been holidaying in Polzeath since the mid 1990s and absolutely love the place. We've stayed in various places over the years and know the area well. We also regularly stay at lots of really lovely, luxury hotels around the UK (favourites being Bailiffscourt in Climping, West Sussex and The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, East Sussex). As a birthday treat, we decided to book a one-night stay at St Moritz, during half term. There was one room available - a one bedroom apartment - which suited our family of four. The room itself was lovely. Sea view, nice and clean, comfy beds. It was about double the price we'd usually pay for a similar sized space in one of our regular hotels but, well, it was half term and I guess there's quite a mark-up for Polzeath. What really let the hotel down was, firstly, the outdoor pool, which was in very poor condition and not up to the standard you'd expect from a 5* hotel. It felt like a fairly mediocre 3* hotel - tired and a bit grotty. Secondly, the breakfast was very average. Not really much different to a Premier Inn. We were willing to overlook these aspects and put it down to experience - not the hotel for us and not somewhere we'd go back to, but 'ok'. Not something we'd feel the need to comment on on Trip Advisor or similar. We arrived home and a few days later my husband received an e-mail to say a couple of items of clothing had been found in the room and would we like them sent back. Of course, he said yes. They then proceeded to ask us for £4.25 payment for the shipping. Having occasionally left things behind in hotels before - not just in the UK but all over the world - we have never once been asked to pay for posting them back. Especially not in a Hotel where you've paid £660 for one night's bed and breakfast. We've often double checked with the Hotel that they don't want postage covered (e.g. posting a nightdress back from Florence, Italy) but the Hotels have always assured us that it was no problem and no charge was needed. When my husband queried this with St Moritz Hotel they said 'this is our Hotel policy'. Seriously? For a package to be taken to the Post Office? They then, grudgingly, offered to reduce it £2.85 to send 2nd class. The issue really isn't the money - they completely missed the point - it's 100% the attitude. You would expect a 5* Hotel to provide a 5* service. Just as you expect high quality toiletries in the bathroom, complimentary water and other beverages in the room, you also expect something like a small cost of postage to return something to be absorbed by the Hotel. It's a very small gesture of goodwill but leaves customers feeling positively about the Hotel. This small thing has turned our slightly disappointing stay into a negative one. All over a simple gesture of goodwill.

We stayed at the St Moritz for our nearby wedding, and the hotel was truly spectacular. We were blown away by the reception team for their personal service and attention to detail. We have never come across such perfect staff in any hotel in the UK or abroad. They were all so friendly and polite, made us feel so welcome, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The same can be said for the restaurant and seaside cafe staff, who were phenomenal with their attention to detail. The chef made me gluten free pancakes and pizzas. I left a message about my allergen, it was noted and not forgotten, something which has never happened elsewhere, ever. The personal service was second to none from start to finish. Other friends and family also stayed at the hotel and they too were very impressed. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to couple and families alike.

The suite we had was very good, spacious and very clean. The views overlooking the sea were wonderful. All the things you needed were within the suite. iron, dishwasher, washing machine and TV in the lounge and also the bedroom.

We have just enjoyed a fabulous two night stay in a cosy room for my birthday. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and had everything you need from a hairdryer and straighteners to bathrobes and large flip flops. I loved the swimmingly pool, juccuzzi and sauna, the staff encouraged me to use the bathrobe which I did, rather than change in the changing rooms. The Cow Shed toiletries were lovely to use.. We had a two night dinner, bed and breakfast package which was really good value for money, we enjoyed the sirloin steak on the first night and different dishes dishes on the second night, all very good quality. We have been before, mainly to celebrate our birthdays, and shall go again, providing there is a package. It is a really relaxing place to stay. It is also somewhere you can leave the car and walk along the stunning coast path in either direction for miles and miles.

Fabulous weekend away at this gorgeous hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms were lovely, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped including sky tv with sports and movie channels. All the staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for you, nothing too much trouble, a special mention to Laura on reception who was especially nice and helpful and also all the staff in the restaurant (sorry didn’t get the names). The food in the restaurant both breakfast and evening meals were delicious with fantastic presentation. We also made use of the indoor pool, sauna and steam room each morning which were all really nice and again spotlessly clean. We would highly recommend a visit to this lovely hotel and will be looking to return in the future.

We stayed here over the New Year. We have stayed countless times over the last 15 years and have always had a wonderful experience. Sadly, this time was different. When we arrived our apartment was freezing cold as all the heating had been turned off and we had to manually turn every radiator on and wait several hours for the place to heat up. Similarly the showers immersion heaters had been turned off, leaving us with cold water until we found the switch. These were relatively minor issues that didn't unduly affect our trip. We would have liked to have eaten out during our stay but the Seaside restaurant was closed (despite the menu being online) and the restaurant menu was much more expensive than our previous visits (£14 for an Onion Bhaji for example and just the basic fish and chips had risen significantly in price). This was a little disappointing and something that I hope is just down to the impact of Covid upon the hospitality industry. Ordinarily we would eat in the restaurant most nights. My biggest issue with our stay was that apartment was directly across from the bar and on New Year's Eve a party was held, complete with DJ. Due to Covid the venue had to have the french doors to the bar propped open. As a result noise was beyond intrusive. It was so loud that we could hear every lyric to every song. It was as though the party was in our bedroom. The DJ kept yelling out for 'Everyone to make some noise', which was followed by loud screaming. Our young children were unable to sleep and were up sobbing until 1:30am with their hands over their ears. One member of our party is in ill health and what should have been a relaxing stay was ruined. In fairness the staff on reception were very apologetic when I called, but their hands were tied. There was one brief occasion when a guest accidentally knocked the bar doors closed yet the noise was still clearly audible even with the bar/terrace doors closed. It was my daughter's birthday the next day and we subsequently had to cancel our plans as she was just too tired to cope with a day out. Our complaint was passed to management, but I felt that it was dealt with in a rather dismissive way. It was the fault of Covid and not the hotel and previous events had been successful. I was made to feel unreasonable for complaining. We were also informed that the bar manager had attempted to minimise the noise, but this simply did not happen. When I raised this, my response was ignored. There were no attempts at reparation. No phone call, no further apology and certainly no offer to compensate us for a lost night's sleep. I didn't feel valued as a guest. There was no responsibility taken. If the hotel knew that they were unable to contain the noise, then they could have told us and we could have bought earplugs or airbeds so that we could have slept on the lounge floor (not that we should have to when paying for a hotel room), but at least we could have got some sleep. We were accepting of the effect that Covid has had on the hospitality industry. We didn't complain about the Sauna/Steam Room being out of use (because parts/repairs can be difficult to obtain over the new year). When a fuse blew leaving us all in the pitch black in the changing rooms, we understood that these things happen. Our spa appointments were cancelled due to staff illness. We did not complain, but instead hoped that the staff member felt better soon. All these things were unavoidable in my view. What I found harder to swallow was the way that our noise complaint was dealt with and how the hotel failed to anticipate or take any steps to remedy what should have been an obvious problem and something within their control. I would say that our apartment was very clean, as always, and that the staff on Reception were very polite, professional and friendly. We have had many wonderful stays at St Moritz over the last 15 years and have returned time and time again. This is the first time that I have felt disappointed and questioning whether to return.

The service throughout the hotel is superb. We were greeted by lovely staff members in reception who took us to our room. We had I believe a basic small double, it had everything we needed and was clean, couldn’t have asked for more. The extra touches are great including toiletries, some games, sky and bathrobes. We booked this hotel due to its location and for the swimming pool. We enjoy going for a coastal walk and then relaxing in the spa facilities after. After our walk we were looking forward to a lovely dip in the inside heated pool, only to find that the pool was really cold!!! This was a downfall as I couldn’t even get in to have a swim, my partner was able to do a few lengths with deep breaths. The jacuzzi was working which was nice and the steam room, however the sauna was off due to maintenance. We usually enjoy a morning swim in the pool, safe to say we didn’t rush back with it being so cold. We had dinner in the bar area in the evening, a standard burger which was lovely. One thing I would point out was the prices of food at this hotel. We came here straight from Carbis bay hotel and the prices of food and drinks here were a lot more! The menu included a sirloin steak and chips for £34 which is ever so pricey. We have dined in some amazing places and we are foodies so we are always happy to pay a good price for food, however, some of these prices were really steep for what they were. The evening menu was also very small and quite underwhelming. The burger and chips we had was about £17.50, but it was a nice burger and chips. The breakfast was absolutely lovely! I had avocado and eggs which was delicious. Overall, our stay was great and all staff are friendly and really welcoming which was lovely. Just some few points that would determine if we would return again. Including the food prices and cold pool. Thanks for a great stay.

A return visit after a long time away and it was great to be back. The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming, our refurbished room was comfortable and warm, dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were both excellent. Couple that with some late January sun and beautiful walks just minutes away and St Moritz gets 10/10 from us. Thank you guys.
