We had heard how good the food was and decided to try it for ourselves. Bringing the dog was no problem. They have a doggy section to the restaurant with great views over the bay. We had the winter specials menu. Starter of prawns and avocado on sourdough. Great combination of our favourite ingredients. Followed by cottage pie, but not your usual mince and potato cottage, this was slow cooked fore rib of beef with a seaweed ragu, and celeriac mash and crispy rice topping. Served with salsa verde with amazing flavours. Finished with rhubarb and apple crumble with homemade custard. We will definitely revisit.

Pre-booked for 4 people Saturday lunchtime, the welcome from the Italian manager was great and he couldn’t have been more helpful and lots of fun. After a drink on a lovely sunny terrace, we ventured inside. Our window-facing table was upstairs and the service from our (Maitre De?) was spot on! He tells us he’s worked for Paul Ainsworth for some years now and is a real asset to the business. The food, wow! Superb, inexpensive, a cracking menu and perfectly pitched. This trip made our long weekend in Padstow most memorable, we can’t wait to come again. Great work Mariners, others take note!

A surprise reservation for cousin visiting from Canada and being unexpectedly joined by friends who were staying nearby (The Mariners were able to modify the reservation on the day of our visit). On our arrival we had a drink at the bar with no seating free downstairs, we were a little earlier. It wasn’t ideal as there was limited space however we were soon shown to our table. Our party made their menu choices and I went for the fish chips which were fine but the fish and batter broke up too easily. Of the condiments the tomato relish stood out. I was maybe expecting more and was therefore slightly disappointed, everyone else enjoyed their choices. For dessert I was the only one to order The Mariners signature trifle and Wow! I ensured all in our party had a sample because I didn’t want them to miss out. How something as simple as a trifle can so impress was fabulous. I found a Paul Ainsworth trifle recipe online and made it for New Year ?? As we expected the service and attentiveness at The Mariners was very good and I would enjoy taking a trip back there when next down south.

Food was quite slow coming from the kitchen. We ordered some sour dough and olive oil which was £7.50 for two slices of bread. Delicious bread and lovely balsamic but £7.50 felt a bit steep.

Whether it's lunch or dinner this wonderful pub overlooking the camel estuary is always a permanent fixture on all our visits to the Padstow / Rock area. A great menu with all the pub favourites but at next level quality . Already looking forward to our next visit...

We have just had a lovely lunch at the Mariners. Both of us went for the fish and chips which we couldn’t fault. Lovely flavours and generous portions in a beautiful setting. Staff were very attentive & welcoming . We will be back, thank you!

Another of Paul Ainsworth's fine establishments. Having enjoyed a meal across the waters at Caffe Rojano, we had to give this place in Rock a visit. A delightful Italian front of house man showed us to an upstairs table with a super view of the estuary. It was a cold day with the wind blowing a gale outside, but the welcome was warm. The food too was superb - I again (!) went for a hamburger, but again, it was so, so good! I would have it again and again. The Mariners burger consisted of a grilled aged beef patty, smoked bacon, Cornish vintage cheddar, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard, clotted cream bun and salty skinny fries. Again, a light local ale hit the right spot. The Chargrilled hispi cabbage, cheddar & mustard was a good choice as well. My partner had the cabbage and for her main a delicious Cornish shepherd's pie with the contents being slow-cooked lamb shoulder and seaweed ragu, basil and a mint salsa verde. Back for more again - you bet! Thank you to all of the staff who were most helpful in our choices. To be fair, I was always going to have the hamburger!

Another excellent meal at The Mariners. I had a starter of 1/2 pint of salt and pepper squid but I guess they’re run out of 1/2 pint pots so it came in a small cast iron pot. Our mains were Shepherds Pie with Hipsi Cabbage without cheese on both and I opted for the Mariners Burger which came with skinny fries. The burger was cooked to perfection and was simply divine. My only observation would be we were in and out within the hour, we didn’t feel rushed but it was a quick affair.

Was passed a recommendation to visit the Mariner for its fish and chips, and it didn’t let us down . We were met on arrival with a warm reception and sat quickly we had a mix of starters and they were spot fresh tasting and very well presented, my fish and chips was bang on and I highly recommend the relaxed atmosphere for a great evening meal, special thanks to Frankie for her advice service and patience ??

Absolutely love this place! Stunning location. Consistently good food. And excellent service. In particular a huge shout out to Sarah who is the best waitress in the world, and no doubt will be running her own pub one day! We've been going there for years and always happy to visit whenever in Cornwall. Highly recommend.Vegetarian options: Cater for allKid-friendliness: Kids menu with crayons, always a win (even for teens!) :-)
