Stopped by on Sunday as part of a large group. There was 15+ of us so probably bit of a shock to the staff for us to appear but they managed us very well. Very friendly and welcoming. Coffee was excellent, I had a brownie which was delicious. Cooked breakfasts looked great too. Definitely recommend to visit. Set in lovely surroundings.

Called in by chance on half term holiday looking for food. The cafe might have been quiet but the owners Dug and Kim were lovely. The service was excellent, and the food was lovely. The homemade ham went down a treat with the egg and chips. And the sausages were delicious and polished off in quick speed. Can also highly recommend the cookies and the tiffin. We will definitely be back when then trains are running.

Gorgeous food, delicious coffee and super friendly staff. We enjoyed a walk along the railway footpath after our lunch. We got some tiffin to take away too which was just as lovely. We'll be back!Vegetarian options: Tricolore panini (mozzarella, tomato, avocado & pesto) was delicious!

We recently enjoyed a sumptuous lunch at Crossing Café. The food was delicious and prepared with care. The exceptional service added to the overall experience making it a pleasant and warm dining atmosphere. A great place for both excellent food and a cozy ambiance. Highly recommended!

An oasis of warmth and light on a dreary October afternoon for my wife and I.Our sandwiches were outstanding and our latte's just right. The hosts Dug and Sue made us feel welcome as soon as we entered the premises.Over all a great place with great food highly recommended to any and all passing through.

A wonderful clean cafe on the railway platform. Can be busy but worth the wait. Chef very understanding about gluten free need. Good menu choice and the presentation and flavour combinations surpass what you would expect.Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free options and chef understanding.

4 Veterans popped in after a local 6 mile walk. Could have so easily walked into town. Really comfortable and cozy cafe. Wonderful food, great customer service and clean and tidy "heads " on the platform. So proud to have been welcomed and served by a Bootneck.

What a fantastic cafe! I stopped here with my dog and after a lovely walk by river and railway line we were welcomed into the cafe. The pea and ham soup was some of the best soup I’ve tasted - all obviously made from scratch with a good stock. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and my dog was greatly admired! She appreciated the biscuits. I would heartily recommend anyone stopping here. I wish I’d had space for cake too, I’m sure it would have been equally as good. Thank you to everyone at Hickins.

Great place but dog friendliness taken too far. We had a dog waving it's behind over our table's sugar bowl throughout our meal. Surprising health authorities haven't regulated against this sort of thing in food consumption areas.

We went in sat downand and made our choice.Went up to the till a sign said cash prefered and also a charge for credit cards which is illegal now .The total of our food was £23 I only had a £50 note of which the lady refused as she couldn't change it .£ 50 is legal tender and should have been excepted. The Lady was rude and customer service was poor. She also said other shops in alston wouldn't exsept Big notes .But went into 3 shops all of which took my money. Will not be returning
