Castle Nook, AlstonA lovely little place to stop off if you need a bite to eat!
It was consistently full of locals, bikers, and tourists - because the food was great. Tuna mayo sarnie that was absolutely full to the brim with tuna mayo, and a cheddar and chutney sourdough panini that was beautifully gooey and crispy in equal parts.
There's also local produce on sale, and great little cakes. Plus, there's a lot of info about the nearby Roman fort of Epiacum, which is worth a hike up the hill to before or after eating. It's not as well preserved as Vindolanda or others, but definitely worth seeing.
All in all, a great little place.

The Turks Head
Market Place, AlstonSpent Easter weekend in the village. Came in here each day as it opened! Lovely log fire. Locals so friendly, and of course the staff. Will definitely pop in, next time in the area. ??

Swans Head
Swans Head, Townhead, AlstonThis is an amazing antiques shop right in the heart of Alston, Cumbria. It has thousands of items which took us quite a while to look around before we bought what we wanted. Even if you do not buy anything it is well worth having a look as there are so many interesting things to see. The owner, Julie is very helpful and knows lots about what she sells.

Townfoot Garage, Station Rd, AlstonGreat local store with reasonable prices, proper butchers and a deli counter. Great beer and wine section also. Love the cakes in the deli! Also, pleased to see they decided to reinstate the cash machine after the recent heist.

Lovelady Shield Hotel - Book Direct with Paymán Club
Lovelady Lane, AlstonWe stayed in one of the cottages the bedrooms were lovely there were a upstairs bathroom also a shower plus downstairs toilet and a laundry room the kitchen had everything you needed the only problem was the kitchen floor was dirty and the living room was lacking in comfort and needed updating the worst problem was the rug which had turned up corners which was quite dangerous as it was a trip hazard for everyone it was also very dirty its a shame because it took away the lovely building and luxury of the rest of the place as many others have stated in there comments please as the owners do take notice but don't actually do anything about it you have a lovely place so take a little time an get rid of that rug and it would be a lot nicer place which I would love to recommend
