Claustrophobic, cold, damp and noisy. You could hear the people in the adjoining room clearly when they were talking. Won't be stopping here again. Such as shame as the main hotel across the road is lovely.

Stayed for a couple of days, it's a lovely place to stay. It's in a perfect location to all the amenities.

No longer a restaurant. Now part of the Fisherbeck hotel.

Entering the log house you will find a clean surprisingly spacious eating two tiered area. Staff are accommodating even if it is too over explain what they do not have on the menu and as to why. Food intolerance is noted and staff will explain in detail as to what is available. My husband had the chicken wings n double burger. Great. I am a coeliac n had the potato skins it's a big fat NO. If you are a fan of dried out skins n filled with reconstructed potatoe yes it tasted like smash. Hubby thought the same when tried. Next the chicken chasseuer. Chicken cooked beautifully. Sauce no taste served in a bowl on a bed of yes smash. Sauteed pots that were tinged green. Veg didn't touch. Didn't get the small pot of mustard n red onion chutney that came with the dish. Not worth the price paid. Reminded me of 1980s school dinners sorry. But won't return n wouldn't recommend on price.

Excellent food, they were a little understaffed but considering this food was out very quickly. The baked Camembert sharer was dear at 12 pounds but the cranberry brioche bun was a nice touch and the other bits that came with it lovely. You really should get a little more here. My only other criticism is that you only get one steak cut serlion or Iron steak, for the steak DEAL. Don't expect a choice and the free wine amounts to 3 medium glasses in total. The steak was excellent that is the main thing. This you cook yourself so don't leave it on too long. It's quite fun doing this of course but be prepared. It means you can crisp the fat so it's actually nice !! And have the steak rare to medium as a good steak should be.Pudding was good, again a little much for what you get but considering the area, no surprise. The gentleman at the front of house asks that you book before and if you get chatting seems friendly. He was polite and greatful for the modest tip we left, despite quite a mess on the table....after cooking a stake on a lava stone for the first time.

First visit for a few years, had a veggie burger which was fairly standard but I think meat on hot stones is the main market. Staff very pleasant and welcoming. Nice decor.

Booked this property early in 2019 via well known booking agency, received a welcome email four days ago and arrived late today to a hotel which was obviously closed six months ago. BEWARE and CHECK if you have a future booking. Lucky we hadn’t paid but lack of contact from booking agency very disappointing.

I booked a stay for a family member as a gift. Unfortunately due to changing circumstances They were not able to go on the trip, so I cancelled the stay and thought nothing of it. Two months down the line, tonnes of calls and emails later I still haven't received a refund from the owner. I've stayed in so many places all over the world and never have I been so let down and disgusted in customer service. I would avoid any business with this b and b as it seems they are only interested in customer service when they are taking your money

Absolutely wonderful place . Food amazing and staff couldn't be more helpful. Such a pity it's closing tomorrow as we would have been back for sure . Lovely fresh breakfast and super clean bedroom. Many thanks guys

Was our last night, and we’d been told about the steak night deal, at forty quid for two, including a small carafe of house wine. Someone in a recent review had complained about steak being too bloody ... don’t take any notice ... you cook the steak yourself, on a 200 degC stone! It can be as bloody, or non-bloody as you want it to be. We all chose to take the deal, and one even took the mixed grill alternative. The owner was very helpful and informative, to the point of coming back every 5 minutes to check. Really nice food, in a unique building, at a decent price. Recommended

I arrived at around 6:30PM on Tuesday the 12th of June 2018, paid £4 for 3 hours parking directly across the street and was refused a table for me, my wife and child. There were around 4 or 5 occupied tables and I was told they had 16 reservations so we were told to eat elsewhere. There were 2 men behind the bar, one with grey hair and the other with brown. The grey haired gentleman seemed friendly and smiling. However, the brown haired man who we spoke with was extremely rude. He didn’t smile at all, infact he was very grumpy, rolled his eyes mid conversation and was very blunt with us. All of this was just for asking directions to any other local places we could eat (as we’d areasdy paid for parking and were on vacation). After having walked and eaten elsewhere, we walked back to our car past the “fully booked” restaurant, it was still (at the most) only half full, so we could have eaten there after all!I’m not sure what the reasoning was behind turning us away, I would guess most likely due to us having a 3 year old (well behaved I must say) child with us - but I do hope it wasn’t due to my wife being of different nationality. Either way, even if they were fully booked up on a Tuesday and somehow only half of the resverations turned up, the attitude of the brown haired man at the bar was disgusting.....

Really lovely place in walking distance of ambleside. The staff were brilliant, friendly and informative. Only has 3 rooms which for us was a bonus. Will definetly go back.
