This is a lovely place to stay, very homely, staff are really helpful and pleasant. Incredibly comfortable room and very peaceful. Very good breakfast!

Lovely 'superior' room (no.21 at the front of the hotel dorma) with huge bed, two comfy chairs, fully provisioned hot-drinks area, and a full-sized bath. All clean, warm and comfortable.Good little walk along the Cumbrian Way just at the foot of the drive follows the river.Very little noise outside, just the occasional car. No clouds overnight and no light pollution here so the stars were spectacular! One downside is the extractor fan next door (no.20) which set up an annoyingly loud vibration in the dividing wall all night. We both found it difficult to sleep (hence lots of stargazing). This puts me off booking again.Rather than drive into Ambleside (note there are no pavements so it's not a safe walk) we had dinner in their Talbot Bar restaurant, but you have to book as it's busy. Food was very tasty and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed - bar/waiting staff all seemed happy.Breakfast was good - fruit/cereals, toast/jam, plus a cooked breakfast, but as per meal last night the food could have been warmer.

Great room for the night. Superior double was.large. Quiet as well. Staff were lovely and attentive. Great location for walking in the Langdales. Also has the Talbot bar attached for food which was really good.Food & drinks: Had steak pie and lamb shank both really tasty, cooked to perfection. The waiting staff were great, tables cleared and cleaned immediately. Cannot fault it.

Can’t fault this hotel one bitI came here to spend a couple days out in the rurals readjusting after a short break to the big city. The price for this hotel was reasonable, the staff very friendly and the rooms perfect for what I needed. The building has a sense of charm with its uneven floor and parts of the wall that hurt out.The hotel is located a couple miles from Ambleside and is in a good spot for reaching the majority of attractions in the lakesI can’t think of one negative thing, the only issue I had was the toilet flush was a little weak but that’s hardly a complaint!I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here as a party of four friends for a 2 night mid week stay as we were looking for a hotel with a restaurant and in the Ambleside area. The hotel has a lovely location and central to the south lakes, there’s plenty of parking and a pleasant garden / terrace for drinks / lunch. The restaurant served a good range of dishes and service was good. As a 3 star hotel I wasn’t expecting 4* facilities but the upstairs areas could do with some upgrading and compared with the downstairs lounges which were very nice. The biggest problem though was the lack of ventilation in the corridors leading to the rooms and to some extent in the rooms themselves. We didn’t stay during the hottest days of late but the corridors were unbearably hot. I asked one of the reception staff if the window on one of the landings could be opened (it was quite high up above a ledge so not easy to reach) but she said it wasn’t allowed as there was a big drop on the other side. This seems ridiculous - surely a simple sign might suffice on the window? If not then a restricted opening on the window, or a grille. I also asked the staff for a second hand towel for the room but was told it was only policy for a room for two to have a single towel - something I’ve never encountered before. Whilst the staff on duty were very helpful I didn’t get any impression of a senior manager (not sure who owns the hotel) being around. This might explain some of the issues I’ve highlighted and the inability of the staff to do anything about them. Whilst I enjoyed our stay and the food was good, I wouldn’t stay again because of these issues

We didn't stay here but we did get a flat tire right in front of the hotel and the staff was incredibly helpful -- letting us leave the car in the lot, liaising with the tow truck, checking on the car for us, etc. Great service for people who were not their customers! The service must be amazing for people who are actually paying guests.

Visited Skelwith Bridge Hotel twice for food during our stay. The first time was really busy but we were still welcomed with out dog and found a place to sit. The Pavlova was superb. The second visit was quiet and service was equally efficient and friendly . Food was plentiful and good quality. Would definitely return if in the area.

Lovely local independent hotel. Clean functional room, lost a star as had to turn off shower & TV at mains as on/off buttons didn’t work! Good car parking and close to Ambleside if not walking distance. Fabulous bar/restaurant, great beers and locally produced food. Didn’t sample breakfast, had take-outs instead which were very acceptable. Good value and nice attentive staff.

We stayed for 3 nights for my husbands aunt and uncles 65th birthday. We were with the party of 13 and we all felt so welcome. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I had an amazing stay and would definitely love to stay again!Rooms: We had a super king sized room and it was lovely. The best feature was the bathtub it was so deep I wish we could take it home with usFood & drinks: The food was delicious we had breakfast and ate on the restaurant/bar all nights definitely worth trying

The hotel is lovely and in a beautiful location. I made all the arrangements for a 3 day family holiday with Joanne to celebrate our joint 65 th birthday. There were 13 of us and 2 wee dogs. She was extremely helpful and ensured all my requests were met. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. All the food was brilliant, promptly served and there was plenty of choice. All the rooms were very clean and extremely comfortable. All the family had a lovely time and my husband and I will treasure the memories forever. Thank you.

I can't start off this review any other way than mentioning the staff on site. They are all helpful, attentive and approachable. Joanne looked after our large group and coordinated everything from room allocation through to our tables for the restaurant to accommodate 2 small dogs. The rest of the staff were always available and friendly, Adam kept us all fed and watered during breakfast and again in the restaurant. Even taking the time to show my wife how to fold the napkins when she asked. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The facilities are very good. In our superior room, the beds were comfy, pillows fluffy and the room very spacious. To finish I want to thank all of the staff, both front and back of house for helping to make this occasion a very special memory
