Friendly local with some great beers.
Had the steak pie ? chips
& veg. It was delicious, loads of steak in the homemade pie & fresh veg (not frozen). Will definitely be returning on my next visit to Cumbria. The lady on the bar was lovely too. 10 out of 10. Thank-you.
Pulled up outside here on Monday as we were staying a few doors down, our plan was to dump the bags and grab a couple of drinks and maybe food if they were serving. We had our two dogs with us be who’s just a pup and has severe separation anxiety, my wife held them whilst I carried the bags. Whilst she was stood on her own a patron who was outside smoking made several remarks about kicking the dog because she was crying loudly very intimidating for my wife. As I returned to lock the car I heard him telling everyone in earshot that the dog was badly trained, I explained she was just a pup at which point he told me he had 5 dogs and none had ever been like that and started to argue. As we were walking away a lady who was employed by the pub in some respect came out and rudely informed us that all her customers were complaining about the noise and we should move. What a welcome to Appleby, safe to say we didn’t frequent this pub during our week stay. Disgraceful behaviour, sure it’s a lovely pub but a pub is only as good as its staff and customers.
Great little pub for a pint, with friendly staff, it was a little quiet after 8.30 pm but does well later afternoon and early evening
Lovely old pub.

A grand pub, with an extremely friendly atmosphere. A nice cosy fire too where you could sit down and enjoy a real ale.
Good pub
Great pub good beer selection, friendly staff and manager, real fire, outside seating area to front of pub, dogs aloud but must be kept off seating, set in centre of town.Parking: Due to pub being on main street, parking can be an issue, but you get 2 hours free.
