Great atmosphere, warm and cozy. Bar staff really friendly and welcoming. I had beef madras, excellent value for money, plenty on the plate and very tasty. The wife had a vegetarian curry which was on the special board, she really enjoyed it. Been to this pub many many times over the years, has never let us down. Will be back for sure.

Came up to Windermere for the day (70 miles). We ate at the Hole in the wall. Two soups, lovely. One ploughman’s lunch (poor). Obviously using the Christmas cheese up! Certainly not what we were expecting, probably got better as the Christmas cheese ran out!!!!!

Firstly what a cracking tap selection, for the first time in a long time I wasn't just making do. I was spoiled for choice! Went for the Westerns in the end, but would of been equally happy with the mulled cider, Neck Oil or Old Rosie. I got the sandwich and soup, again it didn't disappoint. Portions are made for hearty Northern Folk and filled me right up. The wife had a tuna sandwich, again solid portions. Atmosphere was brilliant with a roaring fire in the corner and plenty of taxidermy friends adoring the walls. Which I appreciated the wife not so much but it is all in keeping with being the oldest pub in town.

What an excellent pub, a perfect find, away from the obvious choices in the high street. We had the ploughman’s and it was honestly, the most loaded, amazing ploughmans we have had. Lots of different cheeses, pickles, grapes and accompaniment of relishes. The beer was great, atmosphere was great and the ladies behind the bar were lovely. Will definitely return, would love another ploughman’s.

Came here for dinner with friends and had a lovely evening. The ploughmans was fantastic with something like 5 different cheeses and there were several pickles and chutneys too. My wife said the chilli nachos were lovely too. The service was excellent and plenty of good beer on tap.

Absolutely superb pub for lunch and a couple of pints. Try the Pork Pie with the best pork scratchings I have ever had, and a delicious pint of Robinsons Dark.

Lovely pub with gorgeous open fire. Just what was needed to warm up after a very rainy day! Staff friendly, beers good. Also nice selection of spirits and mixers. We didn't eat this time but we have before and it was great.

Stopped by for lunch and opted for the ploughman’s platter to share - what a dish! Enough for two and probably three all washed down with well kept beer. A real gem off the beaten track. See you soon.

We just love it her. It's warm and cosy with a great atmosphere. The staff are attentive and very helpful. We haven't eaten here yet, but looking at what a man was eating yesterday it will be on our place to eat list on our next visit.

We looked up the pub whilst in Bowness and werent disappointed. Fish finger sandwich containing a record number of 7 fish fingers! Roaring fire, stuffed animals and friendly bar staff. Great place to visit.

Brilliant place away from the busy streets, friendly service and a filling meal. Feels like stepping into a time machine and being taken back in time. Overall a great place and would 100% recommend.
