Roast and Toast

We had a drink here a while ago and really wanted to come for a meal. Unfortunately this experience was less than great! The chicken Kiev was dry with no garlic butter, we asked for mayo to try and give some moisture but this didn’t arrive until we’d nearly finished. It took an age to get drinks insofar as we were nearly finished on our meal. When we told the person in charge of our issues she just said oh sorry about that, no “I’ll speak to the chef or anything “The pie of the day was obviously a bought in pie and the gravy was lumpy.Needless to say we won’t return.

Food & drinks: Stopped in on a Sunday having not booked and were warmly welcomed. The food was excellent as was the service. Loved the Beef blade for main and the fondue starter was moreish. My daughers lemon meringue pie was a belter. Hope to be back soon.

Food was fantastic and staff were very friendly and helpful at the start of the meal. However, after our mains were finished, we had a long wait before being asked if we wanted deserts and then were never given menus as it seems something had happened in another part of the venue. Paid at the bar for the mains and left. Was very good food and great feel but would of been nice with quicker service

Dog friendly - Great sauce on tap!!Me & boys ate here at the weekend when we fancied a quick burger and a pint. Really friendly staff, fast service and a comfortable setting. Priced as you imagine for a Lake District country pub.Well worth the visit when passing through.

Me my partner and our daughter was looking forward to coming here all day today. This has always been mine and my partners favourite place to eat for the past 10 years. We live near liverpool, so it is a drive out to the plough. We had been out on a day trip to the lake district, so we decided to call to book a table at the plough (as in the past its always been really busy)I phoned and spoke to a young lady asking if we could book for 5 she never even asked for my name which I asked her if she wanted it ? She then said see you at 5:30 which I stated twice it was 5.We walked in and was stood there for 5 mins with people walking past several times looking but not actually acknowledging us. so I called at the bar and the gentleman said someone would be with us shortly! Still another 5 mins then to find no booking was actually made, then no childrens menus printed off and then given a menu with 2 for £25 or 3 for £30 even though there is other/better menu options on their website!Waited for over 10 mins for anyone to even take our drinks order and then I decided to shout over that we've just going to have drinks and go as we was so disappointed with the hospitality/service and as my 6 year old said: "mummy are we not eating because its a disaster"Looking at the food that was coming out whist waiting to be served didn't warrant the price tag, so glad we took the choice to leave! It's absolutely gutting that this was always a place that we'd always look forward to coming as a treat but it will definitely be a place that we'll never be back to in the future !

What a beautiful little find! Stopped here overnight on our way back home and were both pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome, not just to us, but also to our dog. Our meals were absolutely outstanding, the menu was very enticing, and service first class. Nothing was too much trouble. We booked the Harrington room which was beautifully decorated and very spacious. Very well equipped and everything worked as it should. A couple of reviews state that you can hear road noise, which is true, but having said this, it quietened down considerably by about 9pm and it didn't stop us from sleeping at all. We look forward to staying here again soon!

Did not stay in hotel, went for Sunday lunch.Food & drinks: Roast beef dinner..beef was chewy and gave my right arm a workout cutting it, broccoli and cauliflower were under cooked and hard.roast potatoes were dry inside and not crispy on outside. Not worth £25, dessert was nice.
