We loved the place from the moment we set foot inside. The service was outstanding; attentive but not intrusive, professional yet friendly. The dishes were small bombs of flavour and surprises ( good ones). I can’t wait to return for their next menu.

Mixed bag.Excellent atmosphere and staff attentive and informative.Food superbly presented and some excellent courses, however not all courses were to my liking ( personal taste)For that reason wont go back until they change the menuThought we had ordered the larger and the smaller menu however served 2 smaller menu's.After meal coffee and tea not the best. Tea weak and only luke warm.

Our first visit to LOTG Houghton. Lunch. The Lal Plus wine flight. Nice ambiance. Very competent and friendly service. A couple of brilliant courses - the beetroot and goats cheese is exceptional - accompanied by a quite brilliant honey and thyme brioche. The fabulous burn meringue sets the standard for a sweet. Monkfish in brown butter sauce was simply delicious. The three appetisers were a very good start - all variations on the theme of Jerusalem artichoke. Sadly the Cumbrian beef was uninspiring, slightly overcooked, a little too small, lacking any greens, and in an uninspiring brown jus. The big disappointment was a £40 wine flight comprising four glasses of moderate to uninspiring wines of miniscule proportion. Frankly that left a sour taste. Go for the food. Buy a bottle of wine you like or by the glass. Avoid the wine flight if you don't want to leave irritated. The food was actually pretty good.....

Wow, what an experience. I was given a voucher from my brother to use here . I will never forget it. Amazing staff who are happy to talk to you and provide you with the best customer service I have ever received. Food was out of this world. We have a festive themed dinner. Utterly superb. Will be back for sure! Thank youDietary restrictions: My partner was gluten free and was catered for without fuss.Parking: Parking on the side of the road. Can be busy.

Fantastic quality food and we didn't have to wait long at all between meals. We never felt rushed, staff were polite, well spoken and down to earth. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxing. Perhaps the most relaxed restaurant environment I've ever been to as I don't like busy, loud environments, so this was just right for me as the size of this place is perfect. The customer service was the best we have ever had so we left a generous tip. Well worth it

Utterly wonderful experience. Every course better than the last, everything was spot on even down to the timings of the dishes arriving - not too long but not rushed through.Staff wonderfully helpful, explained everything, how it all worked and how the flavours went together. Couldn't fault anything.Admittedly it is expensive, arguably very expensive but you get what you pay for and the quality can't be faulted.

What a treat one of the best Michelin Stat restaurants we have been too and we’ve been to a few up here in Cumbria. Every course was gorgeous, staff were vary attentive and helpful. We will definitely be back.

This was my fourth visit and already looking forward to my fifth! I had the 4 course option which included 3 glasses of wine. It all worked well! Food was amazing! Main course served by James (the boss)! Love the way each course is described. I had the vegetarian menu so did not know what I was going to get. It would be good if this was put on the website but accept that this may not be the same every time.

Sometimes people don’t get what a taster menu is all about! It’s not about coming out ‘full as a gun’ , it’s about enjoying the skills and the art of food. Absolutely, stunning food tonight, great service.

Myself and two friends were lucky enough to dine here recently. One of my friends, just the day before was put onto a certain medication which came with a no dairy red flag. We had already made our table reservation prior to this so didn't expect the chef to be able to accomodate this. We were wrong as each course arrived with an adapted version for her. This was above and beyond our expectation and was very much appreciated. Service was smooth and attentive. We weren't rushed or made to feel in the way. The descriptions of the courses really helped us to enjoy and taste all of the ingredients. My personal favourite course was the fish course which I've been thinking about since our visit. I would highly recommend a visit here for anyone looking to feel both spoiled and special in equal measure.

What a gem. The serving staff were wonderful. The food - all 7 courses- was out of this world. Could not fault it. We had some dietary requests and oh my goodness we were looke after. If you are in the area do not mis out on the opportunity to sample this place. Like a previous reviewer my only complaint is we live too far away to enjoy it regularly!
