Went to walk in for a drink, the landlord practically ran out to stop us coming inside. Saying he was closing whilst people were still inside drinking. Obviously he had judged us before giving us a chance.

Lovely home made food, nicely presented and good prices. Staff very friendly and good choice of cask ales . Sunday roasts are fantastic.

Getting a Sunday lunch like mum used to make is not that easy in Carlisle and when the Howards Arms recently closed the options were severely limited. That, of course was before news came through that the Milbourne Arms was taking on the role with, glory be, the same chef ! I had my personal favourite of roast beef etc. and to say the chef was keeping up the standards of the Howards Arms would be a vast understatement. Service, atmosphere, quality food at reasonable prices, the Milbourne has it all AND they stock non alcoholic Guiness! When you have finished your visit to Dunelm, which is just across the road, pop in for something to eat etc. You will not be disappointed.

Nice place. Part of a mini heritage chain that showcases history of state ownership of pubs in Carlisle. Two friendly blokes work there. Met the owner once - also friendly. Superb real ale rotated every couple of weeks I think. Real ale price reduced on Thursday. Very dog friendly. All areas very clean. Superb establishment.
