Went here for an evening meal. Great quality food and reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend the hake main course. Staff very friendly as well and a cosy atmosphere

Really lovely pub in the square with relaxing music and great decor. Quite pricey but seems worth it! Vegan sticky toffee pudding was amazing and service was spot on.More vegan / veggie options would be appreciated.

Had three day stay. Very comfortable room in room across square. Good breakfast, good evening meal with hand pulled local IPA. Did some good local walks including Cumbria Coastal Path and used train from nearby Carl to walk around Arnside and Silverdale headland. Would recommend, Phil

Eaten at Cavendish Arms on several occasions and always found the food excellent. This time found the food choices were not as good and particularly disliked the black crockery especially as the restaurant is quite dark. As we were staying at the hotel we ate in the restaurant for 3xbreakfast and 3 x dinner. We were unable to have a full breakfast unless we paid extra for it and dinner dishes were overpriced for the quality offered. Sorry to be so negative but we were disappointed even though we will return as we like the hotel and love Cartmel.

This is a lovely place with a great ambience, very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly, and food came out quickly but not in a way that made us feel rushed. The food was a cut above - we had the octopus and chicken to start and both were tasty, and the treacle steak and pie for mains - both of us admitted we'd struggle to order anything else when we go again, though everything else looked delicious too. Wine and Beer choices were excellent too, and lots of nice attention to detail such as the cloth napkins and nice glassware. Don't hesitate to go, you won't be disappointed!

Over priced food terrible service. I went for food and as soon as I walked in saw empty tables, no reserved signs on them. I asked for a table for one and got told I would have to eat outside as they had no indoor tables. Odd as they had a lot inside. They told me to find a table outside there’s menus out there, get a table number come to the bar and order. It wasn’t overly busy so I did as requested. There were no menus outside I had to go back into the restaurant to get one. All cutlery for outside dining was in a try left for flys and bugs to crawl on. While people sitting indoors had full service. I finally saw something I thought would be good on the menu. I was very surprised the meal didn’t come with chips or rice. I have to pay separately for them. Finally ordered got settled on a table and waited and waited and waited. As I see people who ordered after me got there food. I finally got food about 30 minutes after ordering. I was so disappointed with the meal from the chips being under cooked and floppy. The meal had no taste apart from a hot chilly water that the dish was swimming in. It looked tasty but wasn’t. Definitely style over substance. Considering the price I paid for a meal for one with a soft drink it was over £25. I would of spoken to the staff but they seam to care more about favourite parties inside instead of all customers. I even heard other customers outside complaining about the wrong order and prices for the service you get.

Ambience was perfect and service excellent. Rabbit starter def worth a try. Drinks flowed and we bad a fantastic evening. Have been back for a lunchtime cocktail outside by the picruresque river. All good.
