So much salt the starter was barely edible, and I normally like more salt than most people. After the starter, I asked for the salt to be turned down for my main course, and the waitresses laughed and said that wasn't going to happen, because of the chef. The main course was way too salty and barely edible. Nice dessert.

This was my fourth visit to Rogan & Co, and first visit since the set menu has come into place. Though every visit has been faultless, this time was absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was exquisite and the service was exceptional.

In my humble opinion, if you wanted to try your first starred restaurant to see if fine dining is for you, then this would be an ideal place to start. Prices are reasonable (for the superb quality of the overall experience) and you get everything you’d expect. The food is obviously going to be wonderful but you get the amuse, the bread and the pre desserts etc that fluff everything out so wonderfully. There’s an excellent selection of courses and I struggled to know what to choose. The decor is very pleasant but without being too formal. To top it off, the service was faultless. Very friendly, smiling and obviously extremely well trained staff. To give an example, one of our party popped to the loo and the waiting staff discreetly held back our main courses, skilfully retreating out of sight so that I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been looking that way. When they were delivered to the table, the plates were carefully placed in pairs, with napkins refolded etc etc. I also appreciated that all the servers spoke clearly when explaining the courses. In terms of the quality of service and the thought that has gone into the food, you are getting a bit of crossover from its 3 star sibling. Wish I lived nearer!

We come here at the same time every year and this year was the same gorgeous experience as always. The staff cannot do enough to help and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming with low level music that you want to sing along to! Obviously the food is out of this world good.. a restaurant in which you could shut the menu and ask the waiting staff to pick for you! We had the eel and raw rump to start, with the duck and hoggett for mains, and spiced custard and apple cake for dessert. They were all stunning, but you couldn’t go wrong no matter what you choose! Thanks, Beth, for a lovely evening (topped with confirming our booking for next year) and Yasmin, what a lovely waitress who couldn’t do enough to help. Thank you all. (Sorry to Simon for my husband dropping the water jug in your work!!! ???)

5 of us dined for a birthday celebration and ate off the a la Carte lunch menu which was £79 for 3 courses. There were plenty of choices for each course. We were also given lovely small treats in between the courses and some exceptional bread and butter. Without exception every single bite was delicious, the options in the menu were intriguing and were all served beautifully . I had pollock for the main which was perfectly cooked, the others had skate and duck and literally not a morsel was left on the plate. Service was extremely professional and friendly. Absolutely perfect for a special occasion would highly recommend - we will be remembering it fondly for a long time.

It is probably unnecessary to describe too much. What you see on the glossy website is perfectly faithful to the restaurant and you would be fastidious indeed to be disappointed in any regard. So I just want to reflect on tasting menus. This one was 8 or 10 items long (they give you it, rolled up with a ribbon, but I've lost it), and it bears out something I've noticed quite often. The first two or three are absolute fireworks. The originality or the intensity of flavour are usually peaking here. The 'mains' don't seem to get quite the same determination to pack a punch. I don't think it's the diner slightly flagging, I just reckon starters and some puddings get all the flair. I remember 32 courses at El Bulli, which you will not be surprised to hear, has never been beaten, and somehow Adria kept it all spinning at peak level right through. Come to think of it, I shall have to return to l'Enclume next door as I suspect Rogan pulls it off there. Thanks for the wonderful lunch and thanks for reading this ramble, if you did.

We visited Rogan & Co. last weekend and it was fabulous – the food, service and atmosphere could not have been better. It has a relaxed atmosphere but everything is done with a touch class. It was our friend’s birthday and they really made it one to remember. Thank you to Tom and the rest of the staff, we look forward to seeing you all again.

Fabulous lunch time experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, faultless and exceptionally well presented food as befits the Michelin star. We opted for the wine paring as we had different starters and deserts but the same main. Very rarely do I have a desert wine so on the occasion that particular paring made my desert exceptional. The hors d’ouerves, and plate of breads and butters (particularly the marmite one) meant that we left comfortably full. Not cheap, particularly with the wine pairing so will get saving so we can go again next time we are staying in Cartmel.

Stay and dine package - beautiful setting, lovely room, warm welcome, lots of nice attention to detail. Staff at Rogan and Co were great - very attentive and knowledgeable without being at all intrusive. Snacks and starters lovely, however we were both somewhat underwhelmed by our main courses; we swapped the dessert for cheese which was really nice. Unfortunately, we found breakfast to be entirely 'style over substance' ... what was described as "their take on a full English" comprised a cold devilled egg, a couple of rashers of rapidly chilling and hard bacon, a mushroom and some home made baked beans which weren't to our taste at all and a piece of sourdough toast. My husband is still mulling over anything referencing 'full English' which doesn't include sausage and black pudding! We wanted to love this experience and it was 'nice' but didnt compare to other similar packages elsewhere.

A very special evening. Delicious food, excellent service, wonderful atmosphere. Cannot be faulted in any aspect. Next time we will try L’Enclume if we can book in time!

We have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants, and this is up there, with the best, firstly, the service is so good, they’re on the ball with everything, very polite and knowledgeable, now to the best stuff, the food, I can’t fault it, I only wanted more and more ha, the bread and butter was even next level, I had the Dry aged dexter short rib, horseradish glazed kale & whey onion, for my main, which was really special, I just needed about 3 portions of it, it was that good. Every course was Michelin quality, for myself and partner though, we really can’t fault anything, we will 100% be back, thank you for a lovely evening, and keep on doing, what your doing, you should be very proud. A credit to a lovely place that Cartmel is :)

Having had an amazing meal at L’Enclume a few years ago we always wanted to head back to beautiful Cartmel and have a meal at the sister restaurant Rogan & Co. Again we were not disappointed, a fabulous meal with absolutely superb service from fairly young but extremely knowledgeable staff. Once again we stayed over on the Dine And Stay package and as previously we ended up with a room over L’Enclume Restaurant (albeit smaller than the last). I was hoping for a room elsewhere as the building is very old and you can hear everything going on in the restaurant underneath, however, as we finished eating fairly late it wasn’t a problem for us but it maybe for some. The room was very cosy and warm and spotlessly clean, a little on the small side for the price we thought. We were really looking forward to our breakfast served at Rogans, a few minutes walk from our room, we remembered the breakfast from our last stay which was absolutely delicious. It was quite disappointing as the traditional English breakfast of fried eggs, bacon, and wonderful local sausages etc had been replaced by cold Devilled eggs (odd choice) no sausages and home made spicy baked beans (you can’t mess with baked beans) which didn’t work for us plus the sourdough toast was very hard. I certainly would t mark it down for that because overall we had a fantastic time and the staff make up for a lot! Wouldn’t hesitate to go back again but may stay in one of the many lovely B&Bs nearby.

We were staying nearby and decided to treat ourselves and really enjoyed the whole experience. The menu options were interesting. We had snacks, starter, main, palate cleanser and desert. We had a cocktail and a bottle of wine. I would recommend to everyone. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A wonderful treat for a special occasion. A tasting menu with a difference being given snacks, bread, a pre-dessert and petit fours but being given the option to choose starter, main and dessert from a carefully chosen selection. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. We never felt rushed but also didn't feel like we were left to sit too long either. Highly recommend the artichoke which was an amazing and delicious vegetarian main. It was nice to try a British Red wine too as I had never had one. Great value for money. We will return I am sure!

We spent the night here at L’Enclume house and dined at Rogan and Co for dinner and breakfast the next morning. The entire stay from start to finish was faultless. Staff were amazing and so attentive and professional, and the food was beautiful! What we thought was a 3 course evening meal was actually a 7 course with all the snacks and extras we were served, all of which were all absolutely incredible! For £79 per person it was an amazing value for money. We will definitely be returning and I would recommend this to any one to visit.
