Tried calling to make a table reservation but the mailbox was full. Went in person and it was closed. Tried the following night - bar service only and no food for the foreseeable. Not a good way to run a business - at least put a message on the phone and a note on the door!!

Great bar, great views, missing out on food, should have the beef barms on every night, not just quiz nights, as the rest of the pub food prices are

Went in last night and waited to be served at the bar for 15 minutes. Was completely ignored by both bar staff. Would absolutely not recommend

Quaint pub in gorgeous Cartmel. Proper cosy, country pub feel. Bar staff were lovely and welcoming, and so were the locals! Only had a drink here but the food sounded pretty good and did look it too! Will have to go back and try it. Definitely worth popping in for!Walkability: Short walk from the very centre of Cartmel, but lovely nonetheless!Noteworthy details: Parking on roadside is a bit of a nightmare, but only a short walk from decent parking at Cartmel racecourse. You do have to pay on exit though, just to be aware of.

Visited on pie Wednesday. Good selection. Had beef/guiness, crammed with meat, very tasty, choice of potatoes, selection of mixed veg, followed by Tim's sticky toffee pudding..... yummy ? ? ? very attentive staff, one very lovely chatty girl who's at Manchester uni.Walkability: 5 minute walk from centre of village.Food & drinks: God choice of food, reasonable prices

I write this with such a heavy heart. I ate here when Simon Rogan had it and was so happy to be back. We arrived, sat in a lovely beer garden, met the gorgeous Coco chocolate Lab, we had our chocolate Lab with us. It was lovely. I went in to confirm our booking for food an hour later explaining we would move inside. And we did at 5, when we were booked. The woman started showing my husband and I to the restaurant. I queried if dogs were allowed and she said no there was no dog on the booking. I mean he was with us but hey. She said we could take the table in the bar. I checked my emails and said Jackson confirmed the dog a month ago. She snorted and said he was the owners son. And then said to us hopefully the other booking didn’t have a dog as if it were our fault. She then said to the delightful young lad who served us, really loudly, the name of the new owners of the pub. But what should she care. Or him. We got the wrong water and she asked if I had opened it, I said yes which was how I knew not sparkling and she explained it by saying they only had still and charged us. She is off to open her own tea rooms in Grange. God help her customers. Food mediocre. Sticky toffee saved it. This pub needs Robinsons to give a damn about it. All other pubs in Cartmel are so much better.

Slim shady behind the bar couldn’t be bothered making a certain drink for us, at first slim said they didn’t have the right glasses for it, we pointed them out being the bar then marshal Mather’s said I’m just not doing them ok! Sassy slim.

The very friendly and helpful staff booked us in very last minute when we were let down by another restaurant. The food was lovely and we really enjoyed out night.

Called while away on holiday and was left standing at bar to be served because the bar staff was serving all the locals first not just myself but another customer comment saying she obviously doesn't want our money because we are not locals which I agreed just thought how rude will not be going again

Having been let down by another local pub/restaurant despite receiving a booking confirmation, we thought there was nowhere we could find a meal on a Sunday evening. Despite a couple of awful reviews I have read of this place recently, I went to this almost in desperation for an evening meal not expecting success. The lady behind the Bar made no issue of accommodating our party of 4 and we were escorted to our table. Immediate service from Elise (unsure of spelling) was polite, friendly and efficient. The Menu offered a very good and varied range at very reasonable prices. None over £15. Every one thoroughly enjoyed the mains, and when it came to dessert choice Tim’s Sticky toffee pudding went down very well, a very generous portion, and so did the Golden Strawberry Creme Brûlée and the Summer Fruit pudding. At £5.95 each very decently priced in the modern market. All food was excellent, the service by the owner/landlady and all her staff was attentive, and very friendly. Would highly recommend and will Hopefully get the opportunity to return again, the mussels moules looked amazing.

Cumbria Way and Hopp beers were excellent. Duck Breast 'special' at £19.95 (excluding veg) was well presented but the meat was very tough. Chicken Breast from main menu also chewy. Service not very friendly. It didn't seem worth complaining about the food as I suspected any replacement would be equally tough having just been defrosted after the order came in. Also, didn't want to extend our visit longer than necessary as the atmosphere was fairly frosty in the dining room.

Loved this place, walked over from Grange which took us about an hour and the sun had decided to come out which was welcomed. A real local rural pub in a lovely setting on the outskirts of the village, very well staffed and very welcoming with a good atmosphere. Well stocked local ales which I had the Cumbria Way and It went down a treat, food ? is on offer and we tried from the nibbles board on the bar chilli ? beef ? nachos which was a meal in its self and was delicious ?. A hostlery that is not to be missed.
