British Restaurants in Kendal

“If you get the chance take your time to locate this wonderful historic venue tucked away down a ginel off Stramonsgate in heart of Kendal. If you do then, like us during our recent visit, you'll be glad you did.The Joshua Tree is a small family run Café & Bistro nestled in one of Kendals oldest Yards in a historic 16th century building. Here we found a warm welcome, great service and some lovely food at an affordable price. The produce is locally sourced and freshly prepared by the team in the upstairs, small and open kitchen area. The menu is unpretentious but with a great selection of what I would call traditional British fare. The homemade soup of the day was delicious, the vegetarian quiche delightful and the chicken, leek and mushoom pie superb. All served by pleasant and efficient, but not intrusive, staff in a wonderful quirky setting. The low ceilings, nice wood burning stove, and open wooden staircase leading to the upstaurs dining area all help to make this a nice venue for us to enjoy a lovely lunch.”

“Stopped for a quick bite to eat on a rather damp Wednesday lunchtime. Things soon brightened with very friendly service and excellent food. Omelette was best I'd ever had! Look forward to returning on my next trip to the Lake District.”

“We had a lovely evening here Saturday for my birthday. Separate allergy menu was lovely for one family member who needs gluten free food and she had a good selection to choose from.Staff serving were great, helpful and friendly throughout the evening. We shared some sides instead of all having starters and all chose different main courses that all arrived at the same time.Thoroughly great time had by us all.Dietary restrictions: Very clear and well laid out information on the allergy menu. One family member who need to avoid gluten and one with a peanut allergy and it’s always reassuring to have information clearly presented and staff who appear well informed.”

“The food tasted amazing. My spicy wings were to die for and the chicken tikka with naan bread was hot and steaming. Rose and Hazel both serviced us and the service was the best we have ever ”
