Absolutely delicious food, lovely atmosphere and excellent service.Food & drinks: Delicious take on local cuisine - the Cumberland sausage with butter creamed potatoes, caramelized onions and fresh veg was divine.

We came as recommended for the Sunday Lunch and weren’t disappointed. Portions were large including a massive Yorkshire pudding and the veggie option was delicious which isn’t always the case at some places.Would recommend.

The Horse & Farrier is a traditional small hotel around 3 or 4 miles from Keswick, either driving along the A66 or walking / cycling along a lovely disused railway which takes you to the centre of Keswick. The location is great for walking and Threlkeld itself is nice and quiet. The room we stayed in was perfect - spotlessly clean with a huge and really comfortable bed. The cost of accommodation is very reasonable considering that it includes a good choice of hearty breakfasts, and dietary requirements are well catered for. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant - the menu is a cut above normal pub fare but priced very reasonably. Service from all the staff we met was very good. All in all a very enjoyable stay, albeit a brief one. Would heartily recommend staying and eating here and will definitely be back.

In the pitch dark of an early March evening I hopped off the X4 / X5 bus between Penrith and Keswick, and called into this lovely country pub. Enjoyed a wonderfully warming Leek & Potato Soup, and a Half of Wainwright's Gold. Lovely warm location, great food and friendly staff.

The food here is so incredibly delicious we dined here 3 nights in a row, trying new parts of the menu every time. The braised lamb is particularly good. The portions are very hearty. You will leave absolutely stuffed. Staff are delightful, atmosphere is warm and friendly.
Excellent food with hearty potions and a warm atmosphere

A terrific place to grab a drink, or meal between a day on the hills and a bus back to Keswick. We didn't eat but the menu was very tempting (no I wasn't hungry enough to eat the menu).
