This is a hidden gem just off the A66 close to Penrith. The gardens are quirky with lots of interesting features and the plants are great value. The cafe has a good selection of food at reasonable prices and the staff are friendly. Finally, the gift shop is fantastic with a very unusual range of items for sale. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful range of plants, shrubs, trees in a lovely location (Melkinthorpe). Their plants for sale are on the more discerning and unusual side. The Acer's are outstanding. There is a small corner that has a nod to Giverney - very calming and peaceful. The cafe serves lovely fresh food prepared on the premises.I could have spent a small ransom there!

A fantastic independent nursery and well worth a visit if you're near by. It can get busy, so make sure to check how busy it is in Google Maps. There is plenty of parking, but it is at the end of a dead end country road, so there may be a small queue. There is a huge selection of plants, shrubs, trees roses ferns, grasses, Acer's and plenty more. Lots of garden ornaments too, so do make sure to stop in. The place keeps going and going and such a relaxing environment. Also a good shop for interior design and art bits

Garden centre with an Italian theme through out the cafe and gardens. I believe a family run business who have roots in Italy. Won horticultural award in 2021 for the wide variety's of plant species. Restaurant uses organic produce grown from the gardens. Gardens are very special and spectacular this is a fabulous place to visit for all ages.

After living in the area for nearly 40 years, we had never heard of the place. A friend told us about it, so we called in for lunch. Had a delicious risotto sitting in an outside glazed cabin overlooking the garden. Service was very prompt by friendly helpful staff and the price was very reasonable. Afterwards, we walked round the garden centre which is huge. Altogether a lovely couple of hours.

Large and upmarket garden centre with all sorts of garden ornaments and some expensive sculptures. Art and craft shop attached, feels surprising and a little incongruous to find in such a remote, quiet location. Shop feels more commercial than rootsy or individual but has a large selection of goods. Garden centre has a very attractively situated restaurant attached which is hard to find as it's sort of hidden behind the garden centre (access is at least partially through the garden centre). To make it even more confusing, it's listed on Google as 'The Greenhouse' but the menus say 'Casa Verde' which is Italian for greenhouse, so maybe it's been renamed? It also feels upmarket and we didn't get to sample the food as the kitchen had just closed. Seems to be Mediterranean inspired food, hence the Italian name. Local people / staff we asked seemed confused and didn't recognize the name The Greenhouse and told us wrong opening times. I conclude this is a local place for local people (with a lot of money).

Very pleasant walk round a well organised garden centre with quality plants. Plenty of statuary, pots, etc. Nice café with good GF options. There is a private garden open for charity in the summer, lovely with a small Chapel at the far end.
Fabulous garden centre and restaurant. A little oasis of Northern Italy in rural Westmorland. Just beautiful!Food and service were great too and the planteria had a very wide selection of plants.

didn't see a hotel, but the nursery is better than visiting a botanical gardenFood & drinks: Great coffee and cakes, must try at least the chocolate ones.

Excellent garden centre. The vegetable garden was nice to see in full fruit/flower as last time we went, it had only just been constructed. Had a very nice brunch in the restaurant, good service, friendly staff.

Lots of choices from a large selection of quality plants. If you love gardening it's worth a visit as they have many plants you won't find in your normal garden center. Also lots of planted areas so you can see the plants growing in situation which is helpful for seeing how they would look out of their pots!Good cafe/ restaurant with some lovely views of the gardens.Quite expensive, but I guess quality comes at a cost!

The gardens are beautifully kept and imaginatively set out with the added bonus of a quirky restaurant that serves fantastic baked cheesecake. There’s also an interesting art gallery/gift shop to look round.
