Unplanned day out to see a friend. Lots of early lunchtime diners when we arrived. But still got a table. Nice selection on menu. Food tasty and well cooked and presented. Both mains and desserts.Surprised not to be asked if we wanted a second drink.Shame no dogs allowed inside. However tables quite close together if your dog is prone to spreading out.Lots of recognition that shepherds have sheep. But little that they have marvellous dogs as well.

We only had a drink at this pub. The interior is bland, generic and feels like a 90s old folks home.

We took a friend from The Lakes here for a catch up.I had the Christmas sandwich, my turkey was fatty and the cold, grisly skin on the sandwich wasn't even slightly edible.I was excited for roast potatoes on my sandwich, as I've not had it for years, they didn't come on the sandwich, but I was actually pleased with that as I found out that they were frozen potatoes and they may have been defrost but they were cold and tasted like they'd been microwaved. My Mum and our friend ordered creamy mushrooms and they came in a lovely little staub pot, when they took the lid off, it was a disappointing surprise of hardly cooked mushrooms and the creamy part was literally just single cream. My dad had the ham, chips and eggs and he enjoyed that. The waitress was very understanding and apologetic regarding the mushrooms, so she can't be faulted, a very friendly and patient lady.We were in "the snug" but the other table in there was a table of about 10 and on their works do so it got very loud in there so much that we couldn't actually hear each other.

Only popped in for a drink. Friendly pub with local beers in excellent condition.

The venue is nice and the prices on the menu made me think we might be in for a bit of a treat, but sadly not. The 'Turkey with all the trimmings' on the seasonal menu was £16.95 (the cheapest option) and was the kind of food you'd expect at a school Christmas dinner. The veg were over cooked, the gravy was standard bisto, the stuffing was nothing to write home about. Another group member had the salmon en-croute (£18.95!) which oddly had currents in it - and the pastry was pants. Dessert at £8.15 perhaps would make up for it? No. The Christmas pudding was like a tasteless sponge cake in a bowl of barely rum flavoured custard. The fudge cake was one of the worst ever experienced. The service wasn't great either. At no point in the meal were we asked if everything was OK and it was an effort to get attention to get more drinks. Other service related rudeness sealed the deal. We won't be back.

Had a lovely roast dinner here. Large portions and very cheap. Only draw back was the roast potatoes. They were not cut into halfs or quarters, just full potatoes left to roast. Middle was very bland and dry. Shame as the rest of the meal was amazing

Lovely friendly and cosy pub with great food. A very nice stop off on the way across to Northumberland from Preston. Good facilities too, can’t comment on the rooms as we stopped for food only.

Stopped here for some lunch, fish and chips and shepherds pie, delicious. Sticky toffee pudding dessert perfect too. Will definitely return.

Lovely roadside inn with gluten free beer on tap and really helpful staff. We turned up on spec and although they were fully booked for later, they managed to squeeze us in.My coeliac husband was delighted to find that they had gluten free ales on a hand-pump and the food portions were very generous with well-cooked, fresh vegetables. My daughter's only complaint was that her 'small plate' was too big for her to manage!I would recommend booking ahead and going with the small plates option if your appetite isn't large.

Lovely pub in a beautiful village. Opposite the village green with outside seating and a small play area for children. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. We ate our evening meal in the pub and it was delicious. Breakfast was excellent- good quality bacon and sausage. I can highly recommend it.
