I visited here recently with family and it was great from start to finish! We had the three course Christmas menu, which was of great quality (we loved the Brie bites) and filled us up! Couldn’t move the next day! The Christmas decorations were great and are always impressive year to year.

Took our 18 month old last Sunday to see all the lights and decorations, had the choice of the extensive normal menu and Christmas set menu too. We shared the garlic mushroom starter in thick creamy sauce, was very nice and plenty of mushrooms. We had 2 roast dinner mains, the portions were huge and a brownie with ice cream dessert. Cannot fault the food or the service, prices were fair and nice to see the Hanging Gate still doing well at Christmas time.

Absolutely disgraceful experience. Table booked two weeks prior and rang up the day before to double check booking and told all was good. We turned up and non of the staff knew about our booking, gave the name and we were told there wasn’t a table. We told them we had booked two weeks prior and had even rang a few days ago to double check due to the busy Christmas period and explained the table was booked for us. Terrible management of staff and dining, terrible organisation, nothing was done to remedy the situation and we took our service elsewhere. Thoroughly disappointed because this place had been recommended to us

Visited here today it was absolutely amazing walking in to all the Christmas decorations, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was great! The menu is full of choices and not like some of these pubs that have fallen into small portions and food not everyone can eat or want like lots of spices! Proper food

A friendly pub with plenty of seating. Staff are always helpful. The food is always nice, with good portions, they also cater well for Gluten and Dairy free diets. There is a range of beers and soft drinks. Usually busy especially when it is decorated up for Halloween or Christmas. Best to book a table.Great views from the pub of the surrounding countryside.Always worth a visit.Kid-friendliness: Great for children who usually can get a free set of crayons and picture to colour.Wheelchair accessibility: Other level from the free car parks.

Country style pub which appeared to be very popular with locals, good choice of meals at reasonable prices accompanied with pleasant, attentive staff. A good plus point about this place was that it is very wheelchair friendly. Well worth a visit

Really disappointed, Breakfast served 10 till 12 but got turned away at 11:30. Poor service from a usually good pub. Wont be back.

Always a pleasure eating here even in a large group. The decorations are loved by the kids and makes an interesting meal - I hate to imagine how long it takes to put them up.Very reasonably priced and good quality food.Staff always friendly despite us bundling in with an army of little ones.Keep being awesome!

We visited the hanging gate today, it's the first time since the lockdowns, we used to enjoy this place and especially at seasonal time, today we visited it was all set up for Halloween it looked great, the place was unusually quiet but could just have been because it was a midweek visit we usually go at weekends. Basically it was just us and two girls other than a birthday party of adults that came in, I ordered the mixed grill, it had gone up from £18 to 26.95 but sadly that's how things are with food price increases, electric etc you k ow the script, I have loved this meal in the past bit sadly today's aasnt as good as in the past, the black pudding, suasage and liver were lovely and surprisingly the pork chop which I am not a fan of was good too, unfortunately the fries were cold, the onion rings over done and cold, the steak was 70% meat the rest was gristle, the lamb was 20% lamb the rest was bone and fat but the mouthful I got was very nice, gammon acceptable, the chicken, no idea, noe like any chicken I've ever had, wondered if it was a veggie version I was being blagged with, mushrooms tasted very odd and the peas were rock hard, 3 of my part had peas and all left them, I told the server this she knocked off £6.95, the value of my childs meal. Onto desert I fancied the chocolate fade cake, but then saw the chocolate sundea, 3 of us opted for that as it had chocolate fudge cake pieces in, the sundaes arrived and I was pleased to see real cream not spray cream, it had chocolate chips in which were too much really for my teeth as the chunks were a good size but once in ice cream quite solid but nice, sadly though there was no chocolate fudge cake in either of the sundaes, I felt awful having to mention this to the server it made me cringe, the server said there's nothing she could do as the boss or I assume it was the boss wasn't it she quoted a name I can't remember, so the chocolate fudge cake that sd the desert to us was missing and no reduction, a bit like buying a car with no discount that has no wheels when it arrives, we were hoping thos was going to be our Christmas family gathering of 12 people venue but we have decided we won't return here again it's gone down hill from its previous glory. Finally why do they have the prices for everything in the menus but we couldn't find a price for any beers or soft drinks and 25 minutes for 4 standard meals seemed a little long really for a very quiet resteraunt .
