Excellent . Talk about feeling welcome . The landlady couldn't have been more attentive in looking after us as all 4 of us sat down for our Sunday lunch . Home made honest grub . Special mention home made apple

We were warmly welcomed by Sharon and Paul into their traditional pub, a great start particularly after the wet miserable weather outside. The menu had such variety and catered for everyone. We had curried parsnip soup and whitebait then I had Moussaka and hubby had hunters’ chicken - both delicious. We even played ‘shut the box’ (they have a wide selection of games to use) while we waited for the chicken to be cooked from fresh. Altogether it was a lovely evening.

We searched online for somewhere to have lunch in Axminster. The Castle Inn revealed it had 4.5 out of 5. We were not disappointed. The pub was quiet, but we had arrived just after meals were starting to be served. We were invited to choose a table in the restaurant. We were provided with the day board and printed menu to choose from, together with an explanation of what was not available that day, only two items. We were asked for our choice of drinks, which were quickly served. Both my wife and I chose bubble and squeak which consisted of two fried eggs and three rashers of bacon, and in my wife's case two sausages instead of bacon. In both our opinions the bubble and squeak was cooked as it should be. Slightly browned edges. For dessert my wife chose two poached conference pears with ice cream, whilst I chose bread and butter pudding with custard. No complaints about the quality or quantity of any of our choicesI would say this. If you love freshly cooked home style food, this is the place to eat.The owner said it was their choice, when starting the business, to ensure customers were not served minimalistic amounts of expensive food. She certainly provided the evidence. Two courses with two soft drinks £33.98.Vegetarian options: Available on request.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free choices available.Parking: There is a pay and display car park with RingGo facility a two minute walk away.

Lovely friendly pub with good food. I booked for myself and daughter. We could bring our dogs with us who were spoilt with some treats and a fussing with a fresh bowl of water to drink. Had a wonderful home cooked roast dinner with ample portions. Had a delicious apple and pear crumble for dessert. The staff went above and beyond. Attentive and friendly. Definitely would visit again. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

The venue was pleasant and we were greeted very well, the host even provided a biscuit and water for our dog. All went well until my wife was served with a fish pie that seemed to contain very little fish. She commented to the host/chef but instead of accepting the feedback the host/chef gave a lecture on what we should expect from pub grub and “we weren’t at some posh restaurant”. Needless to say my wife and I left with a very bad taste in our mouths. The fish pie was priced at £16.99. At this price we expected better quality.

Spent a fantastic evening enjoying great food..... Lamb Shank was cooked perfect, plus good Fish & Chips. As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, I'll be back

We had a delicious pub lunch. Gluten Free fish and chips and sweet and sour chicken with rice. Followed by a very generous portion of Apple and blackberry crumble with custard. It was fresh home cooked food at its very best along with a friendly welcome.

Do not miss the opportunity to visit this great pub. Good beer, good food, and above all good landlord and landlady. Excellent customer service, would not hesitate to visit again.

The best Sunday lunch my husband and I have enjoyed in a long time. Beautifully cooked pork for me and beef for my husband. Fabulous cauliflower-cheese, and plenty of fresh vegetables. Home made Yorkshire pudding and crispy roast potatoes that were soft and fluffy inside. Sharon was lovely, really friendly and Paul was busy behind the scenes but with a pleasant smile and friendly chat. I washed my dinner down with 2 pink gin and lemonades while my husband settled for the reccomended light bitter. The home made bread & butter pudding served with lashings of custard was melt in your mouth scrummy. We booked to return next Sunday as SO impressed. Everything home made, full of flavour and fresh. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Amazing gluten free menu with great hosts. From roast dinner on a Sunday only precooked with your meat order. To every day a very good variety on the menu. Amazing home made gluten free apple and blackberry crumble mmmmmmmmm. Thank you both for your great service ?

Stopped in on a sunny lunchtime for a quick drink. Very friendly welcome and a proper fuss made of our 2 little dogs. Food smelled great so we ordered a light lunch. Butcher's burgers were delicious and proper home made chips. Well kept beer, too. Will definitely return if in Axminster. Highly recommended.
