Well don't hold your breath if you are looking for the management to care for your safety. We stayed there, fire alarm went off at 4am. Temperature outside minus 3 degrees. Cold, very cold. We were given a room at the top of the very old building. We discovered there was NO ONE ELSE STAYING THERE AND NO WAY OF CONTACTING THE MANAGMENT. We were alone in an old building potentially on fire. There was no answer from any of the rooms, the entrance to the bar was locked. There was only the door to the street. No one came out from any of the cottages in the road. Presumably all empty, holiday lets. No one to respond to the alarm but us.Owner had told us he lived just a few cottages away but NO ONE, NO ONE came to see why the fire alarm was sounding. We called the Brigade naturally. Made our way outside. 4amMinus 3 degrees. The Brigade took over half an hour to arrive from Barnstable. They did a thorough search while we stood outside for what seemed like an hour but wasn't quite that long. No one but no one else was there. The notice about fire said 'assemble at bus stop'. What bus stop? We had just arrived in the village, by car, not by bus. It was dark, 4am, freezing cold, what bus stop? There was no mobile number to call. No one to ask. There was no member of management or staff on the premises, in fact there was no one.Next morning staff had no idea there had been a problem. It was not till 2 days later that the owner appeared (after a written request that he do so as had made no attempt to contact us till then) nonchalantly with a cup of coffee saying 'sorry about the problem the other evening, never happened before'.The street could have burnt down with no one being the wiser. Never going near the place again.Safety: There wasn't any care for our safety. We were booked into the Inn and left in the property alone. When fire alarm went off no management on the premises and no telephone number to call. We were left to call the Fire Brigade, let them in, await their advice, etc., alone. No neighbours (properties all empty). Mid winter, -3 degrees, 4am, dark wet, cold.

One of North Devons hidden Gems . Make sure you visit The Wayfarer . Chris , Tara and the team certainly know how to make you feel welcome .I've been here for a drink a few times now and had a fantastic time with there great selection of beers , spirits and wine .This is the first time I've had an evening meal and this time treated the whole family for mothers day . I left in a proper food coma . Good portions , good service and a great pub . If you are near Instow definitely hunt this place out for good food and drinks and a good time .

Spent a week in Instow on holiday and came here on numerous occasions. They were very accommodating for a large group (10 of us and 2 dogs). We all had a delicious Sunday roast and have to say it was top notch. Once of the nicest roast beefs I`ve ever had. Really nice veg, decent gravy and the horseradish sauce had some real kick. The beer was very good too. 4 of us (and 1 dog) also went in on a Monday night to watch the live footy game (West Brom won !) and although it was quiet we had a good time. The staff here are really friendly and are good at their jobs. Prices are very reasonable. Would I come here again ? Yes without a doubt. Recommended

Visited for dinner and ate from the specials board. The fish was all absolutely delicious. We had scallops to start which we shared, then the hake and the smoked haddock. Superb food.Walkability: Right on the Tarka trail!

We came for food one evening. It is a bit cramped when the locals have come in for a drink and you are seated for food. They also brought their dogs which is nice, but when there are quite a few it can be a bit much especially when they are close from the bar and you are eating your dinner. Bit loud but that's expected from the pub. Food was a little basic for Instow as there are so many nice places to eat there. The service was satisfactory and we were attended to if anything was needed. Overall, it was alright.Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Great little place by the beach. Really friendly and the food was excellent. Very clean, comfy rooms. Some age showing in the bathroom but it was clean and spacious. Evening meal and breakfast cooked fresh to order and were good potion sizes for a reasonable price. Dog friendly!
