Rude staff. Told we will have what's left. We are paying customers… will not buy here.

We ordered Beef Madras and Pulav rice . Both tasted very homely and authentic. Excellent .

I would be surprised if there's better Indian food to be found in the South-West.For so many places, the Indian-ness is like a filter put over pulled-together food. At The Spicy Mare it is a true character that runs through the whole of the dish. Whatever is available when you go you can be sure of deeply-felt, subtly-flavoured, rich and extremely wholesome food at incredible value.Deserves to be a local legend. I went six months ago and was instantly transported back to the best of the food I had when I lived in India (a small place in Goa, since you didn't ask). Just now I opened a jar of The Spicy Mare's absolutely polished and perfect Lime Pickle. I live in Philadelphia, but I found myself mysteriously transported back to, of all places, Lynton.Go.

Ilona catered for our family wedding celebration, the most delicious menu to cater for our vegan, vegetarian and meat eating gathering - absolutely gorgeous lamb curry, alongside an equally tasty vegan curry and dahl, mango chutney, raita, kachumber, naan and poppadoms, followed by scrummy vegan sweet treats From start to finish Ilona was so enthusiastic and helpful, making it so easy for us, cooking and delivering us food that looked and tasted great, and that everyone so enjoyed. Thank you Ilona, The Spicy Mare was a memorable part of our celebrations. Xx

I was so pleased to find this gem of a place whilst visiting for a few days. The curries were delicious (vegan friendly) and the perfect amount for a solo traveller to take away in a box and eat immediately with a view of the sea. Served with a good sense of humour and a smile. When I visit Lynton again I know where I will be going first for my dinner. I highly recommend :)

We visited Lynton today and came across this wonderful place.Being a curry fan myself, the wife and I bought two frozen curry’s and fresh pilau rice. One vegetarian and one chicken.Everything was as authentic as you can buy, the flavours were complex and so delightful. Luckily we live only 20 miles away, so we will be back to try something new. What a find! So please to have found this. Really lovely and friendly too.

Discovered this little gem through a quick Google for a takeaway option on our holiday and picked it up after a coastal walk around Lynton. Fantastic food and very friendly owner. Believe the 5 star reviews.

This is an ideal place to get wonderfully seasoned Indian food take out. We took dishes to our rental, added some naan and vegetables, and had three fantastic meals. Also loved the chutney. Ours was mango. We have multiple connections to South Asia, and this food was also authentic.Cooked with love.

We were too early for the daily take away (5pm) so opted for two dishes from the fridge which after reheating they were so aromatic and tasted authentic Indian flavours. If in Lynton again will wait and get the fresh choice and eat it in one of the local parks.

Coincidence? Not sure, but just before leaving home for a trip to Lynton my wife said she would really love to have an authentic Indian meal, not like the standard oily yellow slop from Brick Lane, but a well cooked wholesome vegetarian home cooked one, so when we saw The Spicy Mare and read the reviews, we had to try it and boy, it was fantastic! Delicious and well cooked with fresh herbs sprinkled on top, each dish with its own taste and aroma, we will be back!

Love the amazing food here. It's our second year of getting our curry here, when in Lynton. Wish there was great food like this where I live.

We were tempted in by the fragrance of the spices drifting out into the street, and the flavours lived up to that promise. Really good cooking, and friendly service, highly recommended.
