I used to love this coffee shop when it first arrived, but it’s really gone downhill lately, unsure why. The last few visits have been poorly served (no real interaction), on wonky trays or sometimes no tray. Today things peaked when I was served tea in a stained, broken teapot, on a wonky tray, in a cup with no saucer or teaspoon. This was accompanied by a piece of stale Victoria sponge cake. I’ll stick with the more ordinary but also more consistent larger chain on the high street.

Sunday morning no tea cakes, had toast but no butter or flora, staff didn't seem to care would rather spend time chatting rather than empty and clean tables. Place to avoid until they sort this out.

Con of a place. Ordered from there 3 times on just eat or Uber eats. You never get all your items even tho there available on the app. Ordered 6 items from there and got 2 delivered. Only got a small refund. Money takers.

Good quality food. Tables don't always get cleared and cleaned when it's busy.Wide selection of cakes and drinks. Coffee is great quality. Furniture and decor could do with an overhaul as it looks tired.

Went in on Saturday like we usually do but this week it was shocking. We got a table easily considering upstairs was closed off & it was lunch time. The tables had dirty dishes left on them. The 3 staff that were meant to be working were all stood talking laughing at how big the queue was & not working at the same time. It took my husband 30 mins to get served. The man that did start to clear some tables only cleared 2 so I cleared my own. The queue was out of the door & I saw so many people leave because of the queue & a table of 4 got up & left as 1 of there party was in the queue for so long without being served. It has been like this a couple of times but I have them the benefit of the doubt as it was busy, but don't think I'll be going back anymore service is shocking & staffs attitude not much better. Sorry coffee #1 you've lost a weekly customer that has supported you since you opened.

Country table is better (I've got no connection). Was a regular but C#1 Newton has gone down hill over past year. Some staff are indifferent barely acknowledge you (Tues lunchtime). Coffee is average. They dont clear tables promptly either.

We WERE regular visitors but today's experience has finally done it for me. Coffee weaker than my nans Camp coffee from a bottle. You could practically see the bottom of the cup and no coffee residue at the end of the cup( if they short change the dose of all their coffee to all their customers, there in for some profits) yeah , I could of complained but with me you get one chance to rip me off. cake horrendously expensive, to few staff too many customers/sheep. I will not be back. Coffee number One out of TEN

Went in yesterday on the Sunday, the staff made my experience really unpleasant. I felt really uncomfortable and for someone who suffers with anxiety in shops like these, they really made me unsettled. With their “under the breath” comments, the eye rolling. The cutlery they gave me was dirty, and when asked to swap for another one they huffed and made out it was such a chore.At the end of the day i was treated to a coffee by my mum and they actually ruined it.The three staff that was in there was quite young and had absolutely next to none, very poor customer service… on what they showed anyway.Sonya usually serves me and she is lovely, not use to this type of rudeness from a coffee shop, where it isn’t cheap either.It’s not hard to put on a small smile, and I understand everyone has bad days but the job really isn’t that hard. There is a level of professionalism when working, and also if you are having a bad day do not take it out on others as you don’t know what they are going through! Manners cost nothing.Really disappointed and it has given me further anxiety to wanting to go back in there.Not one to usually write reviews but it really did stay with me, and something definitely needs to change as it wasn’t fair on anyone.
Great selection of coffee and cakes, readonsble price, worth a visit if your passing.

miserable staff that can't even make a proper coffee and quite often its paper cups and plates, we pay for coffee in a cup not a take away cup [ not forgetting the environmental issues ] always dirty tables, they need a proper shake up, i now go to the independents for coffee,

Coffee definitely not #1, dislike their coffee, find it average to bland. Food is good but expensive for what you get. Been a couple of years since I last visited due to issues with an obnoxious delivery driver how things they are entitled to block the whole road to deliver coffee here and a manger who was rude and unhelpful. Ended up popping in due to needed shelter from bad weather. While I wouldn't rush back to any Coffee #1 due to the poor coffee, I have to say this one has raised their game in terms of staff. Looks like the store has a new manager and both staff members I deal with were friendly, helpful and efficient.

Please have a word with your lazy staff. Apparently the dishwasher was broken- so they were using disposables for ALL drinks PLUS lids for every order (for health and safety- just wash the cups!!) Three people on shift, with one on washing up. Seems they could only bring themselves to wash the few plates and the odd bit of cutlery. It wasn't that busy, but most people were having to clear the tables to be able to sit down. Really bad show. Have a word with your staff. Other people in the queue were also astonished at the disposable attitude.
