We were a little disappointed because the prices were significantly higher than stated on the homepage (main course 17 p. instead of 13 p.). Unfortunately, the lemon dressing on the Chicken Goujans starter, which are actually just chicken nuggets, was also missing. Fish and desserts really great, service very friendly. The side dishes for the main course were okay. We were allowed to taste the beer and cider before ordering. Espresso top. All in all, with extreme reservations, just under 4 stars.

We had a last minute decision weekend to get away from our life.... this little dinner crowned our wonderful day... we looked on google for a light little dinner and Anchor's rest was close and have already 4.8 stars on the maps.....Our host/bartender/waiter was Richard. He is a hard working honest guy and just loved his refreshing full hearted honest service!!!! The place is a lovely home feel bistro with a simple menu! We had the mussels starter and the fish of the day with linguine(number 2. ) both were amazing!! Sitting outside by the harbour was a soul healing peacful experience crowned by amazing food( cooked by an elderly lovely lady by the way) and Richard who always been there when needed!!!! ( NOTE for the owner!!! Richard is a crown jewel of your business, please give him a hug and treat him like king!)So all in all it is working and really good to have the reviews of places!!Anchor's rest has the extra shining 6th star in our heart!!!

Nice fish and chips, and very nice UK white wine.

Staff were lovely, food was lovely. The upstairs restaurant interfered with the experience downstairs at the Anchor. They need to show the team and the guests downstairs more respect.

Warm and welcome service from the staff, good food too! Thank you so much for having us late on a Friday night. We enjoyed the fish of the day, lovely cooked seabass and the mussels with cream were delicious! I would recommend this place for the caring service and cosy inviting decor.

We decided to go out last minute and decided on this place as we had drinks here before and had promised ourselves to try the food and we were glad we did !!! We both chose the same main an absolutely banging piece of fish ( Hake) cooked to perfection with crispy skin and soft buttery flesh served on top of linguini with a chilli coconut sauce - so good !!!! Coupled with friendly service we had a lovely experience There is a small focussed menu which I love - ( do a few things well) and a special board There is a good bar and plenty of space for couples or groups of friends Top tip book if there are more then four It’s not a grand Resturant venue it’s a proper little bistro with nice decor and a great outdoor space by the Harbourside. (perfect for the harbour and better for it?) From a couple of seats indoors you can see the harbour. So for drinks by the Harbour and/or a good meal with views of the harbour this is a keeper - we are so blessed with this place and the other offers on the vibrant Harbourside - truly yummy ?

What has happened here? Food was grossly over priced...£8.50 for THREE chicken goujons and a tiny handful of bagged salad.....chips were frozen cheap ones and calamari was awful. Was gorgeous last year but prices have increased and quality has definitely decreased big time. Won't be going back....

Usually go the Anchors Rest most weekends for breakfast. Whatever has happened? We went this morning and the lovely lady that is usually there serving wasn’t there this morning. My partner ordered Eggs Royale, which turned up with hardly any salmon and two eggs which were slimy and grossly undercooked, he left most of it. I usually have just toast, wasn’t given a choice of either brown or white toast as usual, so two slices of anaemic looking white toast turned up, on two separate plates, with strawberry jam that looked like it had been thrown onto the toast from six feet away! Absolutely disgusting, talk about presentation is everything! Unfortunately, this has really put us off, so we will not be going back! Shame, but won’t be paying these prices for sub standard food and nil service

We visited here for dinner, having booked before arriving in Paignton. When we arrived we were uncertain about the restaurant as the outside does not look very inviting. Once inside however the waitress was very welcoming. Happy with our starters we eagerly anticipated the mains. I had sea bass with potatoes, broccoli and a beurre noisette sauce. It was delicious. My husband ordered a burger and fries and this came with onion rings. The best burger meal he’d had in years. The burger was served pink and the onion rings were out of this world. The batter was so light and tasty. Nothing like any onion rings either of us had eaten before.

With only 8 people in the restaurant on a Saturday night, it took an hour for us to get our food. When the food arrived, the main dish was cold and the chips where undercooked and covered in crap from a dirty fryer. We both work in the industry, and this is shockingly bad. It’s a shame as the location is great. They did refund my meal, but I would rather have just had a decent warm meal served in a reasonable time. What would they do if they were busy?? So disappointed, the lost two potential new customers.
