The food was only average and over-priced compared with other local pubs. Service was initially slow, giving the impression that the kitchen was under-staffed.

A really good vegetarian Sunday lunch. Popped in with some friends and were warmly welcomed with quick service and quick food. Everyone enjoyed their meals and they were more than willing to help with gluten free options (most of the roast was already gluten free). We were also allowed to bring the dog in so bonus.

We popped in for lunch on a rainy day. It was very quiet.Cosy, warm, and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, but not over so.We both ordered a main which was tasty and beautifully presented with fresh vegetables, al dente. But the Apple Crumble was the star! The best I have ever eaten. Compliments to the chef!Vegetarian options: Good variety and options to ammend choice to make vegan.

The staff were friendly courteous and attentive so 5* for them but generally the place seemed to be understaffed. Having ordered our food we had to call a waiter over to say we had been waiting for 40 minutes for our food. After another 5 or so minutes our food was brought to us and although the quality couldn't be faulted all of it was lukewarm and the cauliflower cheese was actually cold. ( After pointing this out we were offered a fresh portion but turned down the offer as it would probably have arrived after so had finished everything else.) We suspected that the posted goid had been standing in thr kitchens for some time forgotten about. In order to avoid this sort of situation arising again I feel more staff need to be employed.Vegetarian options: Only 2 choices. The ('non'?) Nut roast was very good and perhaps only 2 options is standard for a Sunday.

A very disappointing evening meal booked to follow a (great) early evening film at barn cinema. Clearly short staffed - 55min for food to arrive from time of ordering. Food itself very average - despite selecting from specials board. Chef explained weird pale sausages as steamed then grilled. Waiter apologetic, waitress attempted to deliver wrong food to table & got the drinks order wrong. Venue in the main bar area was cold despite sitting next to the only lukewarm radiator. It will take a hell of a lot to persuade a repeat visit any time soon.

Had a lovely dinner last night. It is always great to have real home cooked food. Also a great breakfast this morning.

Such a beautiful pub in a beautiful setting. Lovely friendly staff who were attentive and efficient. Perfect pub lunch with good-size portions too.

Disaster lunch. Lack of atmosphere, lack of heat, lack of comfort...ordered Ham ,egg and chips to be told not available due to lack of a chef, there was also a lack of sliced bread for sandwiches or toastie. When our food arrived the order was wrong so returned 1 dish, but both meals left alot to be desired. There was a lack of organisation and what looked like a lack of management. 2 glasses of wine we ordered given free did not compensate the poor experience, could not blame the staff, they were left to get on with it. And in the beginning to have to pay £6 to park my car in a potholed, hardcore car park, The whole set up at the estate needs attention. Its a good job we enjoyed the film at The Barn,at least it was warm. I now await a lack of response from any sort of management at this venue

Service, food and drink outstanding. Greeted politely. Great choice of food. I chose the beef and ale pie and it was amazing. Fresh veg and mash beautifully cooked as well. My partner had the burger which was amazing too. Nice choice of puddings and good size serving. Really good value for money compared to many places around. Thank you for restoring our enjoyment of eating out!

The food and atmosphere were surprisingly mediocre for a setting as magnificent as Dartington. It’s difficult to rate the service. Two of the three staff members we met were friendly and conscientious.I’d give them 5 stars. Our principle server however, was on the arrogant side. In spite of that, I decided to leave a good tip. He then approached me at the bar when I was paying the tab and said “cash tips are preferred”. I explained that we are from out of the country and didn’t have any British cash. It was an awkward ending when we were trying to be generous after a forgettable meal. My advice, dear readers, is to consider the negative reviews. Service and food quality seem to be hit or miss here.
