We went to the restaurant for dinner as part of my birthday celebrations. The location is lovely, and our order was taken while we had drinks in the garden. We were then taken to our table when the food was ready. Customer service is excellent, as is the food and wine. When the staff discovered it was a birthday, they brought out a Happy Birthday message on a slate, complete with chocolates - a nice touch. Coffee in the Lounge finished off a lovely meal, Highly recommend and we will return.

We were greeted very pleasantly by staff in the restaurant who went out of their way to meet our needs and ensure our comfort. The menu was short but well varied with good range of choices. The food was served beautifully and tasted excellent. I had Gazpacho soup, my husband had asparagus with Parmesan shavings on sourdough toast. Main course for me was Hake Kyiv and for my husband Fillet steak served blue exactly as he had ordered. My pudding was Crème Brûlée with infusion of rhubarb. My husband had the cheese selection which he was very happy with. The wine we selected was excellent. A Viognier. This was our first meal at the Castleman and definitely will not be the last.

Niki, Ben, and staff go out of their way to look after you. The food is delicious, the rooms charming and the vibe easy going. A very special place that we keep returning to.

I would like to thank Nikki, Ben and all the team for such a fantastic time at the Castleman, afternoon tea was the best especially the lemon curd. ? The evening meal 5*, the rooms clean and beds so comfortable and a great full English breakfast. From the start when planning this surprise for mum to check out, Nikki and Ben could not do enough to help , catering for 30 people for tea and 20 for the evening nothing was to much trouble. You made this special day extra special. Thank you all so much. We now plan to do this every year. ? Claire x

Great welcome in the drawing the room next to the fire. We then went to the eating room and had a lovely meal. The lamb was beautiful and so was the desert I will definitely come again.

We had the pleasure of dining at The Castleman today for Sunday lunch. Three courses are £30 per head. We had the scorched mackerel and the duck terrine to start, followed by sirloin of beef, which was stunning. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and cheese board. The staff were very attentive, yet informal. It was so good, we’ve booked again.. Highly recommended

My wife and ate at The Castleman on a busy Saturday evening, and everything was perfect. We had delicious cocktails in the snug whilst we chose our starters, mains and wine. In the restaurant, the meal was superb – perfectly cooked and served piping hot. The staff were polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The ambience in both the restaurant and the snug was great. We have already booked dinner at The Castleman on our next two trips to Dorset.

We had a fantastic weekend here, celebrating my Grandpa’s 90th birthday. Wanted to say thanks to all the team for being so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and with three under5’s in tow, they were absolutely fantastic, accommodating for them.

We visited for the first time last weekend, for a special birthday celebration. The hospitality and food were of the highest calibre. The staff were incredibly welcoming and clearly very dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction throughout. From the initial aperitifs and olives, to the tasty and refreshing puds - we enjoyed every bite. The food was locally sourced, fresh and wonderfully prepared - by staff who clearly understood and seriously cared about what they were doing. Definitely recommended.

We have visited the Castleman Hotel restaurant a number of time over the years and the food and service have always been excellent. Last night, as always, the staff were lovely, but the food! I object to paying £28 for a fillet steak meal, which then turned out to be 3 slices of meat (not even a steak) a small amount of potato rosti, and lots and lots of lettuce. The 3 of us who had ordered the steak all felt the same. Unfortunately the meal was not redeemed by the pudding. The honey and almond cake was dry and uninteresting. When these issues were raised with the restaurant, they acted appropriately by reducing the cost of the bill, but it’s such a shame that a not inexpensive restaurant should serve food like this.

Had a lovely evening here, staff were friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful. The whole atmosphere felt very much like home. All within an amazing building.

The old-fashioned country house surroundings and well-kept gardens overlooking the open countryside are one of the many attractions of this delightful place, which calls itself a restaurant first and a hotel second. The spacious rooms and well-equipped bathrooms are some of the most comfortable I have ever found in a hotel, with a sofa in the room, plenty of wardrobe space, decent quality tea-bags and a view over green fields. I love the way they grow so many of their own vegetables and source other ingredients locally. Also the dining room is large, elegant and has pleasant views. The dinner we had on the first night was simply wonderful - asparagus and ham, pea arancini, both light and appetizing, followed by roast lamb that was truly hard to beat. Young, succulent, perfectly undercooked, and tasting deliciously of herbs. The red Carignac wine was excellent. The gooseberry fool was a sharp, refreshing pudding, and the strawberries in liqueur were top quality. The second evening we went for the pigeon breast as a starter, and found it very tasty - no shot inside! For the main course, fillet of brill. It needed more sauce. The tiny new potatoes were delicious. The quality of the home-made ice-cream was superb. The breakfasts are simply marvellous with a wide choice of healthy foods and if you prefer a hearty breakfast, carefully selected high quality bacon, sausages and kippers. I loved lounging around in the gardens and enjoying the tranquillity of the village.
