Hopeless, drove there at 6pm with friends on Saturday SHUT. Tried phoning, no answer. Open according to their website? This pub deserves to be closed for good.

I arrived as a visitor from Plymouth to play at the Sunday afternoon folk session. I was immediately impressed with the warm welcome I received. The landlord was excellent at organising the venue shifting furniture etc at the same time providing cheerful banter. The real ale was wonderfully kept (I had a few tastings to check!). This would be a regular haunt if it were down the road but a little far from my home patch!

I reviewed this pub a couple of months ago after my first quiz night visit.Since then I have had an excellent value Sunday lunch with an astonishing array of vegetables.(no beef or lamb available but 5 other meats) and before tonights quiz had a really tasty and generously portioned shepherds pie accompanied by some fine Otter Ale

Well what can I say …?! My friend said that she had booked The Blackmore Vale pub for our lunch, as last week her family had enjoyed delicious meals for her Mum’s birthday . We arrived at midday Sunday 30th Oct 22 , to a very warm welcome from the Landlord Mark, and were offered regular drinks from the bar, plus a couple of Ales: Otter and Wadworth’s triple 6X . We were then shown our table in the bottom bar area and presented with a mouthwatering menu . We both chose the Beef Wellington ! It was brought out by the Landlord who cut if for us at our table . The Waitress brought out a plate of Roast Potatoes, steamed fennel, courgettes, asparagus. THEN… the waitress brought out a sublime mushroom sauce / cauliflower cheese / another dish of mixed vegetables: Swede, Carrots, Peas and a jug of gravy ! What a superb plate of food and most importantly, the beef Wellington was outstanding . Which contained : Pate, the beef was wrapped in prosciutto and chopped mushrooms … all encased in golden, light pastry . Once we had finished the main, I chose the warm chocolate brownie and cream. ( My friend was too full For Pudding) I was presented with a generous helping of a warm and chocolaty brownie which was a real treat , alongside a coffee to finish . I can’t rate this friendly Pub and Food enough . Go treat yourself too . Perfect Pete , the Chef , will delight you too and you will want to make this Pub your local with the warm and welcome atmosphere that Landlord Mike creates so effortlessly ! We shall be back ! Thank you !

the roast was lovely. I had a great roast partridge and my partner had beef. The landlord (Mark) was very welcoming.the bar is a "no mobile zone" so no one at the bar can use the phone.so very much like back in the days!staff were really helpful and friendly!

An exceptional venison steak Sunday lunch. Very good value for money, and warm welcome from the landlord and staff. Live music from 15.00 hours was very varied and great too.

There's an English/irish acoustic inztrumental folk session on the 4th Sunday of every month 7:30-10:30pm. Every 2nd Sunday there is a folk song session at the same time. I belive there's live jazz on too, but I'm not sure if that's a regular scheduled thing - check their website or call them to find out.

BEWARE PUB DOG. I was told the landlord's Bull Terrier was fine with other dogs. My lurcher and terrier were tied by their leads to the table as I'd ordered food. The Bull Terrier came running over towards my dogs and attacked my lurcher. Luckily only clumps of fur missing. Landlord got his dog off my screaming lurcher, but will not be returning. However good food.

Popped in for a late Sunday roast as it's just down the road from us. Had a lovely time, great service from friendly people, and so much roast we could hardly walk.
