Great beer ( a mix of porters and pale ales) each time I finished during a holiday. Great atmosphere. Probably the best pints in Swanage. Friendly service.Food looked incredible but I never ate here during my stay.

Only popped in for a beer with friends (although I know it has a good reputation locally for food). Great choice of good real ales.

Wow! Another delicious couple of meals at The Black Swan recently. We ate mid week, a couple of weeks ago, Scrummy fish pie and spare ribs for mains. However, the tiger prawns from the Specials board were the absolute winner for me. A bit messy to eat, but so tasty!Sunday roasts, in October and last week were just as good as always, brilliant roast spuds, and the gravy they serve is amazing. The drinks and staff are spot on too.

The night was cold, but we had a warm welcome from the staff. Even the chef had time to say 'hello'. The specials board was full of good options, but we both went for the stuffed breast of lamb, having heard the chef explaining how it was prepared. We were not disappointed. It was cooked in port so there was very little fat and it was a generous portion with a delicious gravy. The accompaniments included dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of vegetables. What we like about the Black Swan is that the menu is prepared and cooked in the kitchen by a skilled and dedicated team with a talented chef. Not pre-prepared dishes that are bought in and simply heated up, like many other places these days. We thoroughly recommended The Black Swan and will be there as a family for Christmas Eve! Hooray!

Arrived with no booking but the manager made room for us. The menu is very good. The French Chef is excellent and his food is simply delicious. Very enjoyable meal.

We visited in August and my wife had a vegetarian meal but that evening was violently sick. Returned for Sunday roast on 26th November to celebrate our wedding anniversary and unbelievably she was violently sick again near the end of the meal at the restaurant (outside), then again during the evening. Two meals at the same place and sick on both occasions. Strange or what? Not been sick at any other time during the year. Sorry, would love to give five stars but clearly can’t. Hope the restaurant might respond proactively to this.

We had dinner here last week and you need to book as it was full. The food was really good quality pub grub with generous portions. I had sardines to start and pork belly for main with the other half going for the whitebait followed by liver. All very tasty and filling in so far that we had no room for dessert. A bonus was there was Timothy Taylor Landlord on tap too ✔️. Definitely recommend and we will be back.

Happy to have discovered this place while searching for somewhere to eat last night while staying in Swanage. Nice welcome, even though we hadn't booked. Food was lovely, I tried the beetroot chilli & thoroughly enjoyed my meal. So much so we're returning this evening. Very knowledgeable server & a great pub atmosphere. Place was busy which is always a good sign . Plenty of choices & a changing ' specials board' One of the better places in our opinion to eat in Swanage. Worth the little walk up the hill from the town where we've tried most restaurants & pubs.

Had our Christmas meal last night, 6th December, what can I say, very helpful staff, food was amazing and very tasty. Book a table, you will not be disappointed. Merry Christmas to you all, and thanks for a lovely evening.

What an amazing place! Eric the chef was so friendly and helpful (I’m a pain to feed due to allergies and intolerances) and even made me my own allergen-free dessert for the next evening. Fabulous chef, good atmosphere, beautiful food and really good value for money. We’ll definitely go back.
