Very, very good café in Barnard Castle. Pleasant, efficient staff. Very clean. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available. Great tasting homemade food. Cakes are fabulous - best carrot cake I've ever had, from the first mouthful. Great tea selection, the lapsang souchong loose leaf was delicious, smoked and aromatic. I had the loaded potato skins with smoked applewood and caramelised red onion, served with garlic mayonnaise and house salad. All totally tasty, delicious and well presented. Recommended and would revisit. (No dogs)

The service was great & the lunch options were varied & sounded fab. My partner had the quiche (came with new potatoes, salad & coleslaw) & I had pate, toast, chutney & salad. Both meals were delicious & the right amount for a lunchtime meal. We were too full to try one of their delicious looking cakes, which was a shame. The cost was also very reasonable & we will definitely return to try more of their food. Very impressed.

Nice cafe but a little chaotic. Had to wait what seemed to be an eternity for a bacon and egg sandwich BUT the wait was well worth it. Very nice sandwich when it arrived. WOULD go back again.

A lovely cafe, very friendly staff and excellent food. Nothing too much trouble, all allergies catered for and my husband was very pleasantly surprised to be asked if he wanted his Speckled Hen serving cold or room temperature. We will definitely be going back.

Total chance we ended up at Clarendon's...after searching for a lunch time bite.Judging by the number of locals using it we made the right choice.Really good food...

Wonderful experience. Had Coronation afternoon tea with a friend to celebrate King Charles lll coronation. Food was really yummy and there wasn't one thing that could be faulted. The table was reserved, bone china crockery was already set on the table. Tea arrived in a silver colour teapot with extra water and milk. The service was perfect, we were asked if everything was ok but weren't bothered too much. We had a nice large table so had plenty of room. I would heartily recommend a visit and I will be returning.Parking: We parked right in front in the market place

Visited for the first time today, and it was a lovely experience. we received a warm welcome on arrival, and our party of 6 (plus a baby and toddler), really enjoyed our breakfasts. All the food was of high quality, very well presented and arrived quickly. We also thought it very good value. We will certainly visit again when we are back in the area. It ticked all the boxes, and would definitely recommend.
