Parking: When you turn in, it often looks busy, it's just the layout of the carpark.

Called in for an early evening meal on Saturday, it was very pleasant but quite quiet. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was lovely but no real ales on offer, the Guinness was nice

Honestly very impressed with the food! They had a great selection on the menu and the staff were so friendly. We went on a Wednesday evening (hanging kebab night) as myself and my colleagues were in the area for work. It had been recommended to us by a local, so thought we would give it a go. The food was so fresh, delicious and the portion sizes were great.I had the pork and apple burger (recommended by the waitress), while my colleagues had different hanging Kebabs.I don't have a bad word to say about this place, it was clean, friendly, great food and decorated to a high/cosy standard.Definitely would go away if I end up back in the area.

Vile - avoid at all costs We decided to go here just before Christmas for a Christmas Family lunch. I can’t begin to explain how disgusting it was. The place was filthy I ordered my daughter kids spag bol and They served her spaghetti topped with mince gravy! Told them it wasn’t spag bol and they took it away and returned with spaghetti topped with tinned veg soup and mince! awful I ordered seafood linguini which had some mashed up fish. few mussels and was curdled and tasteless - again ate none. You couldn’t have paid me to eat it. The chicken Kiev was bland The staff serving were lovely and apologetic but didn’t know anything about the menu, it was obvious they had, had no training. The manager wasn’t at work so we rang up to complain when we got home and were told they would call us. Still waiting 4 weeks later.

Terrible service and food. We booked well in advance and was asked to preorder from the 2 for £20 menu. Got there had the food which was awful, steak was poor certainly not the 12oz the menu claimed it to be. Got the bill and was told the 2 for £20 was not on in December (despite having been asked to preorder from it a week earlier and it still being advertised on Facebook that same day) refused to honour it and we ended up paying £400 between 9 of us. Absolutely disgraceful.

We booked, “The Bishops Lodge”, for our Christmas Party, mainly because everywhere else was fully booked and they for some reason were not. From entering the only word we seemed to hear was “Sorry”. “Sorry if you want the Two for £20 offer we are not doing that because it’s Christmas”, we had pre ordered from the main menu, perhaps they should have know that. The whole pub was deserted apart from our party of eleven, arriving early we were told we could go straight to our table, instead we sat next to the unlit fire, kept our coats on and had our first round of drinks. When the last of our guests arrived we were quickly taken to the restaurant area situated at the furthest end of the pub. Despite the reference to “Christmas”, nothing on the tables to suggested it was, not even a festive napkin was to be found. Our starters began to arrive, all very average in both presentation and taste, chunks of barely warm, reheated belly pork sat on top of a few rocket leaves, chopped mushrooms in a sea of tasteless gravy, purporting to be garlic sauce (which for some reason had a large chunk of bread submerged in it). A prawn cocktail with a few prawns drowning in a sea of pink sauce, the soup which came extra, as one of our number had been forced to cancel, consisted of a bowl of glutinous and tasteless barley, it was passed along the table, till someone eventually had the courage to eat it. Is everything alright we were asked if average is alright then yes it was. Of the main courses most of us had the 8 Oz Rump Steak, complete with ribbon of inedible fat, it came with half a dozen huge chips, a few chopped pieces of mushroom (clearly from the same home as the aforementioned starter), along with an incinerated half tomato, the accompanying Peppercorn Sauces at £14.75 at least gave it some flavour, for a steak, at £16.25 it was hugely overpriced and to say it was average quality would be paying it a complement. The other meals were all again at very best average, these included the seafood pie with inedible veg soaked in vinegar, yet another “Sorry” with no alternative offered. As young Jack placed his last chip into his mouth the plate was quickly taken away. The restaurant area was very cold and some in the party had kept their outer coats on, there was a gas heater stood nearby so we asked if it could be lit, “Sorry the gas bottle is empty”, came the reply, after all what would you expect, it was the middle of December, even the heated drier in the ladies toilet was out of action. The Sweet Menu then appeared, and a few of the party ordered items from it all again overpriced at £5.95, a few ordered coffee’s, (they even managed to get one of those wrong, not surprisingly the milk was cold) Young Thomas ordered ice cream, 3 scoops of vanilla (no other flavours available and not a wafer or sprinkles in sight) at £4.00. Some reward, for the youngster having cleared the numerous empty glasses from the table as the servers could not be bothered. Then to our complete surprise. almost immediately, one of the servers returned and we were asked, “Would you like a last round of drinks as we are closing at 9.00pm”. “You are having a laugh”, came the retort from someone, “Sorry”, came the reply. Who is in charge? he was asked, “He’s not here”, at which point the server scurried off only to return and confirm, “Sorry we are closing”. Our taxi was booked for 10.30pm, a not unreasonable time to leave, one could say, as the pubs closing time was clearly shown on their own website as 11.00pm for a Tuesday night in December. Despite the several calls made by, “The Bishops Lodge” to pre order our choice from the menu, no mention was made of either, the Two for £20 offer or the pub closing at 9.00pm. Within a few minutes a woman then appeared and began telling us to leave, it was pointed out that our taxi wasn’t here to pick us up yet. Do you want us to wait outside? she was asked by me, “Please yourself”, came the reply, Do you have a manager? “Yes”. Does he have a name? “Michael”. Does he have a second name? “Ward” (or it sounded like Ward) the co

We went to have a family meal that was pre booked only to arrive the the staff were very unwelcoming, the table was not set for us, when we sat down a member of staff came over to take our drinks order, then another member of staff came with menus and then informed us they didn't have some items on the menu, I had rung ahead about the pizzas they said we will have the stuff in that would be needed however I was informed they had no pizza dough so pizzas were not an option I informed I was vegaterian they offered me bangers and mash, they then said if you want to leve I wouldn't blame you. The service was appalling and with that we left.

Pre Christmas lunch.not a patch on last year's. No cracker or festive napkins. Strange broth couldn't find any veg in it! Main plate heaped in an unattractive pile.no sprout or parsnip only side dish of overcooked and soggy broccoli cabbage an odd carrot. Unattractive and non seasonal. Great Yorke and Christmas pudding. As always table service wonderful. Need to find a new venue next year unfortunately.
