What a fabulous place this is. Accomodated us (a party of 10)with no problems. As it was a busy Mothering Sunday, Staff were very friendly and attentive. Nothing was a problem. Service was excellent!Parking: Easy access to car park

I had the Rose Tree burger, bread bun dry, burger, chicken and bacon all over cooked and very dry. I did mention this and was offered a free sweet but refused it, I was there 2 weeks previous and it was lovely, different chef maybe? Husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed.

Food was lovely. Had a special off the board which contained pork & leek sausages, pork belly, Yorkshire puddings, black pudding, mash, red onion gravy ?

5 stars across food, service and atmosphere, but a total rating of 4⭐️? Go figureOK so the food was lovely. Daughter had lasagne which was obviously scratch made. No frozen rectangular dish here, absolutely delicious. I had the steak ale pie, again scratch made. Beautiful pieces of meat, pastry just right, the ale taste coming out of the pie was awesome. Amazing. Decent prices, lovely pub.However.Dropping a star for......The chips. Dropping a star for the chips? Absolutely I am. Because hopefully the chef, or the owners are good enough to receive a lill criticism and ask the question. Why has this customer dropped a point for our chips. Let's cook up some chips and see what's what.I've no doubt I'll be back in at some point in the future. Hopefully ticking the box that's got the 5th star in it

Called in by off chance for lunch. Couldn't fault the food, staff and their service. Will definitely be returning.

What's not to love, this classic pub delivers restaurant quality food and food beer. Warm friendly atmosphere, dogs get spoiled, cool staff, cannot recommend it enough ?

Went for the two meals for £18.95. Both were inedible. Complete waste of money.

Great country pub with a decent sized car park and close to the centre of Durham.Food was decent, most of the group were happy. Chilli con carne with rice needs some work though, it was a let down and the lemon meringue pie and salted caramel cheesecake weren't great. The room to the right of the bar is a bit squashed and has quite a strong dog smell. Probably not noticeable if you're dog people though and it is a walking pub so not rating down for that.Staff were lovely, really attentive. There's a cool collection of old mobile phones adorning the edge of the room which is something interesting to see.

Stopped in for lunch on a walk along the river. We were actually heading for another pub nearby based on a friend's recommendation, but it was closed so we came here instead. And luckily we did - the food was amazing! Everything was freshly prepared, good value and delicious. Will definitely head back here on our next walk!

Booked Christmas Day dinner for 2023. The service was excellent and the food arrived quickly and hot. But it went downhill from there. I had preordered lamb broth. It was so thick of barley the spoon stood up in it. Small bits of what looked like cold stuffing on the top of it. No bread roll to accompany it. Next was my turkey dinner. Came with no stuffing on it so asked waitress to get me some pls. Came back to say no stuffing served with the turkey. No cranberry sauce. Asked for more gravy and was brought an egg cup size server. There were 3 of us. Next was the sticky toffee pudding. Nothing to write home about. Custard, No cream. Daughter and grandaughter had hallumi starter with a bit of lettuce. Roast beef dinner. No coffee served after meal. No wine to go with meal. We did get a cracker each. This meal cost £285. I expected a lot better than what we were served. It was my first time eating out on Christmas day and it is certainly my last.

Excellent lunch today. Giving credit where it’s due as I’m so difficult to please and this is second visit in short space of time. The staff were lovely and can’t do enough to please. Looking forward to a Sunday lunch.

Best Sunday roast I've had in Durham. They are not shy with portions and the cheese sauce is delicious! Great value for money ?
